6 years ago the legendary Soviet directed by Tatiana Lioznova … Even if she shot only one of all her films, her name would go down in the history of cinema: "Three Poplars on Plyushchikha", "Seventeen Moments of Spring", "We, the undersigned", "Carnival" - all her works are still used constant success with the audience. Film "Three Poplars on Plyushchikha" became a classic of Soviet cinema thanks to three components - the skill of the director, the wonderful music of Pakhmutova (it was after this film that the song "The Earth Was Empty Without You …" became a hit) and the brilliant performance of Oleg Efremov and Tatyana Doronina, with whom Lioznova had a lot of disagreements during filming.
In all the works of Tatyana Lioznova, music always becomes one of the main characters - songs from her films are gaining no less, if not more, popularity than the films themselves. And "Three Poplars on Plyushchikha" was born out of one song. Lioznova told: "".
Borschagovsky's story formed the basis of the film script, although the director decided to replace Shabolovka with Plyushchikha: the fact is that even then everyone knew that there was a television center on Shabolovka, and this caused additional associations in the audience that had nothing to do with the film. The shooting really took place near Plyushchikha - in a real apartment of a residential building number 5 on Rostovskaya embankment.
None of the actors invited to the main roles answered with consent the first time. Vyacheslav Shalevich, who played Nyura's husband, categorically did not want to appear on the screen again in the form of a negative character, but in the end he succumbed to the director's persuasion. And Tatiana Doronina gave her consent when she saw her photo tests: "".
Both Lioznova and Doronina had very difficult characters, and colleagues perceived their joint work as a battle of the titans. Once in an interview, the director said that once during the filming, Doronina brought her to an attack. Serious conflicts were avoided only because the director had to give in to the obstinate actress. Lioznova was a true professional in her field and could sacrifice personal principles for the sake of the result of her work. Her friend Vyacheslav Shmyrov admitted: "".
Despite the fact that Pakhmutova agreed to use her song in the film, she refused to write music for him for a long time - she did not like the idea of the picture. And only after Lioznova showed her fragments of the footage, she agreed, stating that she was doing this only because of the close-ups of the brilliant Oleg Efremov.
Many doubted the success of the film due to the lack of a fascinating plot and twists and turns, and the director pinned great hopes on it and hoped that the audience would understand its intention: "".
The work on the film was completed in 1967, and it was released in 1968. In one year, it was watched by 26 million viewers. In 1970, Doronina was awarded the Best Actress Award at the IV All-Union Film Festival in Minsk. In 2011, a color version of this film was released, which provoked a new surge of interest in it. One of Gagarin's favorite songs "The Earth is empty without you …" in the film is performed by Tatyana Doronina and Maya Kristalinskaya, and later she entered the repertoire of many Soviet pop stars.
