The Russian hinterland hides many mysteries and interesting historical sights. It may seem incredible, but today in abandoned Russian villages you can see amazing ancient Orthodox churches, many of which are masterpieces of architecture. One of these sights is a 16th century church complex in the village of Kurba, Yaroslavl Region.
The village of Kurba is located 30 kilometers from Yaroslavl. Buses run daily. True, in the off-season, it is better to check the flight schedule in advance. The Kazan Church, built in 1770, is visible from the outskirts. It is interesting that the 16-petal structure does not have a traditional altar inside - it is located at the western wall of the temple.
Next to the Kazan Church there is a tall five-tiered bell tower in a classical style with carved details, which could adorn any city. The staircase on it is destroyed, but with a strong desire, you can still go upstairs.
The church was closed in 1930, valuable icons were destroyed. The windows are smashed, there is debris and dirt underfoot. Inside, on the walls of the Kazan Church, you can see real ancient masterpieces of art.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the frescoes were renovated, so they can still be admired today, despite centuries of desolation. It is known that Yaroslavl masters worked on the painting of the walls from 1796 to 1799.
The colorful plots of the Old and New Testaments are conveyed in exact sequence and resemble classic examples of Russian baroque. Some of the frescoes are well preserved, but rather not thanks to, but in spite of.
In Soviet times, a tractor station was set up in the church. The vaults and walls were smoked with smoke, and most of the paintings were destroyed. It is necessary to examine arches, pylons and tiers decorated with decorative elements, as well as picturesque forms of vaults under layers of dust.
Unfortunately, today the interior of the church in Courbet continues to be destroyed. Rains, winds, snows and vandals: the entrance to the temple, gaping with black holes, is open to everyone.
Attracts pilgrims and tourists and Holy Savior Cave Monastery in the village of Kostomarovo, which can rightfully be called a bastion of Russian Christianity.
