Cave in New Athos
A huge karst cave with stalactites and other interesting natural "exhibits" located at the foot of the Iverskaya Mountain is very popular with tourists coming to Abkhazia. The route proposed to pass runs through eight halls (in general, there are even more of them) and is two kilometers. The temperature inside the cave is about 11 °.
By the way, a railway tunnel has been laid to the entrance to the cave, through which the rolling stock goes.
Observation deck in the Yupshar canyon
A small observation deck with a simple fence "Chabgar Karniz", which can accommodate about 10 people, is located on the cliff of the Yupshar canyon. It is usually called "Farewell, Motherland" - apparently because it offers a magnificent view of the Caucasus Mountains.
Here visitors are breathtaking from the beauty of the landscape and from the fear. It is considered to be the best panorama in Abkhazia and one of the most beautiful in the Caucasus.
Lake Ritsa and the dachas of the Soviet secretaries general
Lake Ritsa is located in the Gudauta region, in a forest gorge at an altitude of almost a kilometer above sea level, replenished by rains and melting snows. The reservoir is of glacial-tectonic origin; in severe winters it is covered with ice. By the way, the lake is inhabited by trout, which can be easily seen through the purest clear water.
Ritsa and the surrounding mountains (their height reaches 2-3 thousand meters and more) are incredibly beautiful. In this picturesque place, the former dachas of Stalin and Khrushchev are located, where Brezhnev later rested, combining the two buildings into a single complex. Excursions are now conducted to the dachas - visitors can see a typical Soviet interior, which for a modern person seems very simple.
The road from the lake leads to the Black Sea coast.
Blue Lake
Relatively not far from Lake Ritsa, there is another body of water, which is called the Blue Lake. Its area is only 180 sq. meters. This body of water is called a framed sapphire and a natural wonder. It never freezes and its bright blue color always remains the same.
By the way, on the lake you can see peacocks, with which tourists are invited to take pictures for money.
Pitsunda Cathedral
The Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Andrew the First-Called located in Pitsunda was erected during the reign of King Bagrat III. Over the entire period of its existence, the building of the cathedral has undergone restructuring and restoration, during the Soviet years the cathedral was badly damaged.
In the building you can see unique frescoes, a significant part of which, alas, has been destroyed. The tombs of the cathedral keep the relics of Andrew the First-Called and Simon the Canaanite.
In the 1970s, an organ was installed in the cathedral, and the premises began to be used as a concert hall for organ music.
Waterfall "Maiden's Tears"
If you go to Lake Ritsa from the Gagra side, you can see a beautiful waterfall. It is located on the banks of the Bzyb River and is immediately striking.
According to legend, once a local girl was inflamed with love for a young man (according to another version, for a mountain spirit), and an evil witch in revenge threw the beauty off a cliff. It is believed that thin streams of water are the tears of an unhappy girl.
It is customary to make a wish at the waterfall - for it to come true, you need to leave a bright ribbon here.
Queen Tamar Bridge
The bridge of Queen Tamara (Besletsky bridge) was built approximately in the XI-XII century. Its length is just over 13 meters, and it is composed of limestone slabs. This is the only surviving monument of Georgian civil architecture of this period that existed in Abkhazia.
The arched spans were once decorated with inscriptions glorifying Jesus Christ, and fragments of them have survived to this day.
Apparently, this bridge was of great military and strategic importance, because nearby you can see fragments of a combat tower, which apparently protected the bridge from the sea.
Milky Falls
The nickname "milky" was given to the waterfall because its water, foaming, from afar seems thick and white, like milk. The waterfall is formed by the waters of a mountain stream that originates in the glaciers of Mount Acetuk.
The water is enriched with beneficial minerals and oxygen and is so pure that you can drink it.
