Blooming sakura, samurai, kimono, geisha and manga or skyscrapers, an economic miracle, businessmen and technology constantly rushing somewhere - all this is about Japan. Everyone sees the land of the rising sun in their own way, but the view of the Japanese photographer Kiichi Asano at his homeland is special and completely unconventional can surprise anyone.
It would seem that we have not seen what kind of works on Japanese subjects! And incredible silk landscapes, and a new performance of the butoh dance, and even branches in jars from Japanese masters, we did not ignore! It would seem, "Well, that's it, there is simply nothing more to show!", But that was not the case. Japanese artist Kiichi Asano depicts the land of the rising sun in its usual form, not retouched for the Western viewer.
Looking at these photos, one will think: “Well, well! But with them everything turns out to be the same as with us! And she will be very mistaken, because one thing can be said for sure: these pictures do not occupy soulfulness!
Kiichi Asano was born in the small town of Kameoka, Japan to a family of peasants. His family moved to Kyoto when Kiichi Asano was still a child. When the future photographer was in school, he literally fell in love with photography and regularly set aside some of his pocket money to buy a camera.
Asano preferred black-and-white photographs, the objects for his photographs were the surrounding reality: a rapidly changing reality "stepped on" the life and traditions of old Japan, a new stage in the country's history began. The photographer wanted to remember forever the passing world he loved.
People, traditions, snowy landscapes from Japan's “past life” preserved in these pictures look like a beautiful woman in a yukato, quietly leaving the past along a snow-covered alley.
More information about the work of the photographer can be found on his website.
