Born in Iran and educated in the United States, Kamrooz Aram is making his way in the art world, inspired by the heritage of two religions and two cultures - Eastern and Western. The different images and symbols that are present in his paintings, painted with acrylics, are presented in a completely new context and a new meaning.
Kamruz Aram is a contemporary artist whose paintings combine traditional and contemporary cultural heritage to create scenes that reflect the carnival, absurd, mystical and terrifying present.
For the first time the artist felt an interest in painting when he was 17 years old. Although Kamruz was a good musician, he chose art as his profession. "My art can be compared to the experience of a musician," says the Iranian artist. “When I walk up to the canvas, it’s like a concert I’m presenting to the audience.” One can improvise and explore new possibilities, drawing inspiration from the process itself.
In his latest paintings, Kamruz Aram explores many topics, including mysticism, violence, idealization of revolution, national and religious ideologies. He uses national symbols such as a hawk, a circle of stars, a flag, as well as religious symbols - angels, mystical flashes of light.
Iranian artist Kamruz Aram currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Aram was born in Iran in 1978 and received his master's degree from Columbia University in 2003. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art, Wilkinson Gallery, London, and Oliver Kamm / 5BE Gallery, New York.
