If you travel to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, be sure to visit the new Museum of Broken Relationships, which features love letters, fur handcuffs, wedding rings, massage oils, wedding dresses, lingerie, and other tangible reminders of a short-lived love.
A museum dedicated to broken hearts was founded in Croatia not so long ago. The authors of the idea are former lovers Olinka Vištica and Drazen Grubiši, who after parting decided to creatively say goodbye to the remnants of their relationship. They put all their romantic things, then asked their friends, later, with the assistance of the press, people became interested in such an idea, bringing material memories of failed love, and thus the Museum of Broken Relationships was born.
The creators offer each individual the chance to overcome emotional decline by making a donation to the Museum's foundation. Former lovers and mistresses get rid of things that hurt their heart and soul. Museum of Broken Relationships is an art concept that assumes that things cherish our memories and feelings. It is an intention to preserve the tangible and intangible legacy of a failed relationship. After the success of the first exhibition, which took place in Zagreb, this unique museum of its kind travels with the exhibition around the world. Residents of other Croatian cities, as well as London, Berlin and Singapore, have already seen the fragments of the once bright and happy, and sometimes sad relations.
The museum has everything from romantic and touching letters to various gifts given by loved ones, such as teddy bears and photographs, but there are also unusual items such as a prosthetic leg of a war veteran who fell in love with his physiotherapist.
In Berlin, a woman presented an ax to the museum, with which she broke furniture with her ex-mistress.
In Singapore, the museum fund was replenished with a teddy bear “My Malay Bear,” which witnesses the sad love between a girl from Malaysia and a man from China. Unfortunately, they met in a multiethnic state where marriage between different ethnic groups is not accepted.
