Adults, unlike children, have no room for error. Looking back, and realizing how much is left in the past, and even more wanting to do in the future, they are in a hurry to make it. French artist Daniel Castan was engaged in graphic design and collaborated with many famous companies all over the world. But he realized that he wanted to be an artist only when he turned forty. Then he took paints, a brush and, without hesitation, simply stood at the easel … Although, the French maestro does not work with a brush at all. Daniel Castan draws his bright, emotional canvases with a palette knife, a special knife-spatula for cleaning the canvas from excess paint. Drawing with a palette knife is extremely difficult, but the result is worth it - remember the incredible autumn landscapes of Leonid Afremov, the colorful paintings of the Vietnamese artist Phan Thu Trang, experimental paintings by Amy Shackleton. The paintings of the French artist are dedicated to New York, the city that never sleeps, bustling and crowded Hong Kong, Mexico City, Beijing … So, smear by smear, Daniel Castan reproduces the cityscapes he once saw during his trip around the world.

Megalopolises fascinate, confuse, frighten, impress, inspire - leave no one indifferent. Everyone finds something of their own on noisy avenues. Among skyscrapers, boutiques, hotels, restaurants and small eateries, Daniel Castan also found his muse. Having risen to the easel and armed with a palette knife, the artist, from memory and photographs taken during trips, reproduced what he saw on canvas, trying to fill the works with those emotions and impressions that he felt, experienced, took with him. And it doesn't matter that the works are much more reminiscent of abstract blots and figures, which you need to peer into for hours in order to grasp the essence. The artist conveys the atmosphere and color palette as accurately as possible, but the urban landscape that we see largely reflects the author's world and not the real one.

An abundance of paint on canvas, bright spots, vague shapes, broad strokes and a deliberately careless style of painting are the distinctive style of Daniel Castan's work. But despite all this, his works really show us the avenues and squares of cities that he happened to visit. A complete gallery of the author's emotional cityscapes can be found on his website.
