More than 4000 thousand photographs of the best works of art were needed by the artist Maxim Ksute to create a series of portraits symbolizing "life" and stages of art development from antiquity to the present day. From each picture, the viewer looks at the "face" of the era, assembled from images of the best works of the corresponding time and at the same time being its symbol. According to the artist, the art we know has outlived its usefulness, today it is dying, and humanity is looking for new forms of self-expression. Artist Maxim Ksuta does not intend to stand aside.
Maxim Ksuta was born in 1974 in Moscow. Having received a higher technical education, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Aviation Technological University named after K. E. Tsiolkovsky (1995). But the elements of alloys for gas turbine engines were not enough for him, therefore, simultaneously with writing his thesis, Maxim Ksuta devoted all his free time to drawing lessons, watercolor graphics and easel painting at the Surikov School.
Today Maxim Ksuta continues to live and work in Moscow, but he devotes all his time to creativity. The series of 40 works he created under the general title "Expulsion from Paradise" has become widely known. Already in these works, the outstanding personality of Maxim Ksuta manifested itself, harmoniously combining an artist and a scientist. In the process of work, he applied an unusual technique of combining books, paintings and stained glass windows.
No less interesting is a series of portraits-photo collages "Day by Day", illustrating the stages of the development of art throughout the history of mankind. We have already seen collage portraits from newspaper clippings in the work of Patrick Bremer. Unlike him, Maxim Ksuta selected 600 photo reproductions of the best works of each era for each painting: archaic, antiquity, gothic, renaissance, romanticism, baroque, impressionism, modernism. Interestingly, the people in the paintings are, in fact, the artist's friends, depicted as residents of the respective eras.
Maxim Ksuta conceived this series as a kind of reflection of the "life" of art - from childhood to old age and death, from the archaic to modernism. "In the 20th century, the living form in art has been destroyed, worn out," the artist believes, "and something new is brewing." But Maxim Ksuta's view is by no means pessimistic: according to the law of cyclicality, after death a new life will come. But what will be the "new life" of art, time will tell.
