Video: Funny caricature and a serious craftsman: woodcarving by Andrey Alarichev

Unlike caricaturists, it is difficult for a sculptor to sculpt plots for momentary events - each piece requires many weeks of hard work. Therefore, the sculptor-cartoonist Andrei Alarichev chose as his target those things that will be relevant for years, if not millennia. Funny caricatures about our life and our shortcomings grotesquely carved from wood will surprise and make you think about many "usual" problems.
In his works, the Russian master stigmatizes a variety of vices. The cartoon "Geologist to the Oligarch" caustically ridicules the conventional concept of a piece of Russia's wealth pie. And the funny caricature "Diplomat" gives a collective image of the profession, where the ability to close one's eyes to inconvenient facts and tell a person only what he wants to hear is the norm. A large series of satirical sculptures by Alarichev is devoted to family relationships. Which of the men did not curse the strict institution of marriage? Dedicated to all sufferers! The sculpture "Family Panties" is the quintessence of total control and jamming life.
On the shortcomings of a person as a person, the master's chisel also walked with irony. A chatterbox is a godsend for a spy, but a biologist would better find a caricature of the same name: empty-headed creatures with a tongue without bones are not yet known to world science! With no less grotesque, the composition "I am beautiful" reminds of the value of correct self-esteem - after all, selfishness and narcissism are a long-standing scourge of humanity (look at the funny portraits of celebrities by Anita Kunz and Political cartoons by Clay Bennett).
A good cartoonist will skillfully bring the most inconspicuous vice to the point of absurdity. Laughing at the absurdly exaggerated scene, we imperceptibly reject its prototype. Let's hope that Andrey Alarichev's funny cartoons can change people for the better at least a little. A gallery of all the sculptor's works can be found on his author's website.
