Roger Reutimann … Sculpture, according to Roger, is technically more difficult than painting. He believes that creating one work is equivalent to writing a thousand paintings.
Roger Reutimann was born in Switzerland in 1961. He started playing the piano at the age of 5, then continued to study music at the Zurich Conservatory. As a teenager, Roger took part in international pianist competitions many times.
His acquaintance with the cultural heritage began with travels throughout Europe. Roger Reutimann wasted no time in between his musical performances - he visited museums, art galleries, and already at that moment began to think about changing his creative profession. And he succeeded. Taking small steps towards his goal, Roger gained fame and recognition from the public in 2007.
- explains Roger. After moving to Miami, he spent 7 years designing a beachfront villa, which was eventually published in the architecture magazine Digest. Later - Roger began attending a local art school, where he showed his interest in sculpture.
Reutimann, inspired by the human essence, always starts with an idea, namely: he finds in a person vices that are condemned by society. Further, he develops a concept that will help to reflect them as accurately as possible. The hardest part at this stage is finding a suitable sculptural pose. Roger sketches on paper and then moves from 2D to 3D, creating small sculptures. Finally, when the basic concept is fixed in the head of the sculptor, he moves on to create an enlarged copy using clay, wax and bronze. Each work by Roger exists in a single copy, duplication is extremely rare for special orders.
Unlike many of his colleagues, Roger Reutimann takes part in all stages of sculpture. It seems that Roger, who spends a huge amount of time, effort and materials, will find it difficult to part with his sculptures. However, he himself says that this is not so.
The bronze sculptures, expertly crafted by Andrew Myers of Southern California, have interesting stories to tell the audience. Each work of the master can be pondered for hours, unraveling the allegories hidden in it.
