Bright, red roses, like many other flowers, are one of the symbols of a romantic relationship between a man and a woman. However, as these buds are not durable, so love dies down with time. It is this process that I decided to display with the help of my floral installation Red on Green Scottish artist Anya Gallaccio.

Each of us knows the legend about the Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani, who, being in love with a famous actress, sold all his property, bought a million scarlet roses and one morning put them on the street under the windows of the object of his passion. Since then, no one has been able to repeat such a romantic act, although there have been attempts, of course.

For example, recently a Scottish artist presented an unusual installation Red on Green, created, however, not from a million scarlet roses, but only from ten thousand of these flowers.

The installation Red on Green is, of course, dedicated to love. But not an instant mutual passion between a man and a woman, but this whole process, from the very beginning to the end.

Creating the installation Red on Green, Anya Gallaccio placed ten thousand of the freshest scarlet roses in one of the halls of the Jupiter Artland in Edinburgh. And then, for days and weeks, the artist, along with visitors to the museum, watched these flowers fade.

This is how love, flashing with bright colors, in the overwhelming majority of cases passes over time, leaving only withered buds in the souls of people who have experienced it.

Anya Gallaccio herself explains the idea of creating a floral installation Red on Green with her love for the “mysterious process of natural decay”, regardless of its form and theme.
