On pages Culturology. Ru we have already had the opportunity to get acquainted with the daring, defiant and shocking works of a young Chinese sculptor Chen Wenling … In particular, it was about sculpture " Big golden farting bull"which symbolizes the crisis of the world economy, and a strange installation" Red memory"on the seaside, also known as" Red Boys ". However, these are not all works that leave a lot of questions and mixed feelings among those who have visited the exhibition. Huge fat disgusting pigs - another page from the portfolio of Chen Wenling, moreover, they are included in several series of his sculptures at once. So, back in 2008, at an exhibition in Beijing, the sculptor demonstrated to the public one of his most challenging works called "The God of Imperialism", where, of course, a fat disgusting hog acted as a deity. And around him - a retinue of little pigs, which greedy glowing eyes contemplate the carcass of their leader. The carcass is materialism, and the little pigs are people thirsty for material benefits, who were sucked in by this swamp, so much so that they cannot get out. By the way, the Chinese have always considered the pig to be a sacred animal, a symbol of wealth, prosperity and fertility. Here, the pig is an exaggerated symbol of prosperity, which turns people into a weak-willed herd.

Chen Wenling plays the card of greed, selfishness, arrogance and arrogant pathos in other "non-kosher sculptures." In series Happy life pigs are no longer so disgusting, but strikingly similar to people. The author especially carefully depicted the legs and primary sexual characteristics of the characters - so realistically that they cannot be distinguished from human ones if you do not see the upper part of the statue. No one is sinless, but a person differs from an animal, among other things, in his ability to control desires, restrain emotions and behave according to generally accepted rules of decency. Otherwise, the line will gradually fade and wear off.

In his recognizable style, exaggerating, sneering and mocking, Chen Wenling exposes human vices, showing with his sculptures those who can be turned into if you cross the line. The author himself admits that fear inspires him to shocking sculptures, but with it - humor, imagination, fantasy. You can see the works of the shocking sculptor on his website.
