Many still remember from childhood a kaleidoscope - an optical instrument-toy with colored glass inside. Pictures from this series, it seems, were also placed inside this amazing tube - repeatedly duplicated images give viewers a new look at familiar characters.
Young German artist Eduard Horn came up with and brought to life an original idea - he decided to make non-trivial kaleidoscopic pictures with the participation of popular characters from comics.
Kaleidocomix series ("Kaleidoscopic comics") Is a bright whirlwind of quite recognizable characters, as if repeatedly reflected in mirrored glasses folded at an angle. There are Batman, Superman, and Catwoman. Surprisingly, intricate symmetrical patterns can give illustrations a new life - hair, body parts, costumes - the viewer must comprehend all this anew and from a new unexpected angle.
Here is what the author says about his work: “The idea of a constantly changing human personality is the main subject of my work. I would like to go beyond the limits of digital, and so-called "manual" art, I would like to break the boundaries between visual and applied arts. Moreover, I would like to do this with regard to traditional visual media and new digital opportunities that have recently become available to contemporary artists."
Apparently, the Parisian artist dreamed of getting inside the kaleidoscope since childhood Mattia Paco Rizzi. As part of The 2014 Kanal Playground Festival, held in Brussels, he presented art installation "Taumascopia" in the form of a huge kaleidoscope, which anyone can enter.
