Taj Mahal - the most famous architectural landmark, "the pearl of Muslim art in India", one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Austrian photographer Josef Hoflehner presented a series black and white photosin which this mosque looks completely different than in most advertising brochures.
The Taj Mahal is famous for the white marble walls inlaid with gems. However, Josef Hoflehner chose a monochrome color scheme for his photographs. His works are imbued with an aching feeling of loneliness, detachment from the rest of the world, a deep sense of drama and even a kind of "timelessness". Black and white photographs are an attempt to define the very essence of this holy place, to create a mystical atmosphere.
Despite the fact that the Taj Mahal is visited by tens of thousands of people every day, Joseph Hoflener manages to capture the mosque deserted. His photographs are mysterious and deserted, this is a truly new look at the recognized architectural masterpiece.
By the way, the series of photographs by Joseph Hoflener is not the first black-and-white experiment among photographers. On the site Kulturologiya. RF, we have already talked about the works of Tamer Al-Tassan, who also presented original photographs of the Taj Mahal.
