In a London gallery Tate Modern there will be a retrospective exhibition of the works of the American artist Roy Lichtenstein, one of the brightest representatives of the pop art direction. Superheroes, sensual blondes and characters from popular cartoons - these are his main objects of the image. One of the artist's ideas was to transform a product into a piece of art. Considering that Roy Lichtenstein's works are regularly included in the lists of the most expensive paintings, he did it well.
Having received the title of "Possibly the Worst Artist of Our Time" at the dawn of his career, Liechtenstein all his life he remained faithful to his creative principles. The process of creating a picture usually went as follows: the artist flipped through numerous newspapers and comic magazines in search of unusual pictures. I cut out the illustration I liked, projected it onto the canvas and outlined the image with a pencil. Then I made some adjustments to the drawing on the canvas and painted it. The painting was considered complete.
Pop art ideologists called their art "the mirror of a" disposable "society." Paintings Roy Lichtenstein is the best illustration of this thesis. Instead of creative searches - a mechanical process, imitation of the printing press. And all the richness of the palette comes down to the main typographic colors: black, magenta, yellow and blue.
Later Roy Lichtenstein paid tribute to the classics of painting: Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso … The artist performed a series of works based on their works, using his own creative technology. The comment was as follows: “I don't care what the original is at all. It is important for me to straighten the lines."
Such an ironic view of popular culture, of the ideas of ideals and values imposed by it, has found its adherents. Art project "Pandemonia" brings ideas Liechtenstein, as they say, to the masses. This is how the noble work of educating the mores of modern society continues.
