From February 15 to February 25, a festival was held in Berlin, at which a lot of interesting new products were presented. One of them was the picture of American Steven Soderbergh, who used only his iPhohe7 camera for filming. The movie was named "Not in itself" and belongs to the genre of psychological thrillers.
This film, shot in a rather unusual way, is a classic thriller with elements inherent in the best horror films. The film tells about a mental hospital with its dangerous patients and evil supervisors. Sofia is the main character. Her problem is that she doubts her capacity.
At first, Sofia was an ordinary girl, but she became the victim of stalking - an obsessive persecution. To get rid of the constant fear and feelings of persecution, she decides to move to another city, but she cannot deceive her psyche, and as a result, the heroine still ends up in a special psychiatric hospital. Gradually, she ceases to understand where reality ends and the fantasies created by her mind begin.
Experts note that previously, films that were filmed on a mobile device camera even managed to get an Oscar, but directors of the level of Soderbergh did not resort to using this method of shooting. It is noted that it was possible to achieve the difficult atmosphere of the film, to convey the heroine's fear, for the most part, precisely due to such non-standard shooting on the phone.
The American director himself noted that he had never used the technique of such close shooting of actors before and used it for the first time in her work. This time, this move seemed appropriate to him. By the way, in the credits of the film, you can see the name of Peter Andrews, who is listed as the operator, in fact this name is fictitious and Soderbergh is hiding behind him.
At the Berlin festival, this film was shown out of competition. For the most part, the reason for this is that he worked on the creation of his recognized classic of genre and auteur cinema, and his work was head and shoulders above all the other works presented this year. For this reason, it would be unfair to put this film in the competition in relation to other participants. The novelty "Not in itself" will be launched in Russian distribution on March 29th.
