Since 2010, American photographer Shawn Clover is working on a large-scale art project that, like a time machine, takes us 106 years ago, in the distant 1906, when San Francisco was destroyed by a powerful earthquake. The art project is called " 1906 + TODAY: The Earthquake Blend"and is a series of collages of photographs of the last century and modern photographs. Artfully composed" mixes ", pieces of two eras, combined into one whole, they demonstrate the destructive power of the earthquake that burst into San Francisco in the early morning and turned 80% of the city into ruins In one collage the author has one and the same place, but one part of it is depressed, black and white, crippled by the elements, and the other is modern, colorful and blooming. into the asphalt, crushed wooden carts contrasting with modern cars … Time has stood still, events have mixed.
After devoting two years to this work, the photographer gathered enough material to release two parts of the art project 1906 + TODAY: The Earthquake Blend, and start preparing the third issue. Collages are enjoyed with pleasure not only by those who are interested in the history of San Francisco, but also by representatives of the creative intelligentsia who love such excursions into the past. And even more so, so creatively designed excursions, also with educational moments.
You can see both parts of this amazing art project on Shawn Clover's website.
