Despite the fact that the time machine has not yet been invented, life sometimes presents us with real surprises, allowing us to travel into the past. This happened with apartments of a certain Madame de Florianin which no one has lived for seven decades. The hostess left her house even before the start of World War II, regularly paid for utilities, but never returned there. The heirs visited the luxurious apartment after the death of its owner.
Madame de Florian was a real socialite, played in the theater and, apparently, lived comfortably. Experts who undertook to evaluate the apartments were amazed at the chic interior, which has been preserved here, as if in a museum. The apartment has already been christened "Time Capsule"because, being in this room, it seems that the passage of time has stopped a century ago.
After leaving the apartment, Madame de Florian moved with her family to the south of France, but no one has been to the Parisian house, located next to the Church of the Holy Trinity and the building of the Grand Opera, over the years. The heirs, conducting an inventory of the property, found several finds here that did not leave art critics indifferent.
Perhaps the most valuable was the portrait of a woman in a pink evening dress. It turned out that the picture is Martha de Florian, the grandmother of the owner of the apartment. The portrait was painted by the outstanding Italian artist of the late 19th - early 20th century Giovanni Boldini. It is noteworthy that the painting was not included in any of the museum lists, nor was it in the portraitist's catalog. Information about her was found only in the book of the artist's widow, the painting is dated 1898. In addition, correspondence between Giovanni and Marta was also found. The letters, tied with a ribbon, neatly lay in the same place where the actress kept them about a century ago.
When the authenticity of the painting was established, it was put up for auction with a starting price of 384.88 thousand dollars. Boldini's creation was sold for 2.707 million dollars, making the portrait of Mademoiselle de Florian the most expensive painting by the artist.
