Beautiful, slightly mystical portraits of a French photographer Julie de Waroquier allow viewers to take a fresh look at the identical twins phenomenon. Julie studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, which helps her bring deep implications to her work.
De Waroquier named her photocycle Chimeras, hinting at the "surreal" side of his plan. Heroes of "Chimeras" sometimes seem like aliens from the fantasy world, but in fact Julie finds them right on the streets. She once made a special visit to Britain's Annual Twins Festival in search of new heroes.
“I work on the borderline between reality and sleep, trying to shoot images that seem to be created by the power of imagination,” - this is how Julie de Varoquier describes his creative credo. Her photographs of twins are flooded with a mysterious, almost unnatural light, pushing the viewer to the idea that two absolutely identical people are a rather strange sight. The mundane in de Waroquier's works takes on a mystical flair.
Like many other contemporary artists - for example, Natalia Sullen and Leila Khaled, - Julie de Waroquier gained popularity largely thanks to the Internet. In an interview, she never stops expressing gratitude to Facebook users who "like" her photos, and also help to find contacts of new models.
