If the adage "Brevity is the sister of talent" could be applied to the work of artists, photographers and illustrators, then the Chilean artist Jose Esteban Basso was rightfully considered the king of brevity, brevity and minimalism. His creative works are as "laconic" as it can happen to a painting, and the author conveys the mood, emotions and atmosphere through color, more precisely, an appropriate palette of colors carefully selected for each of his unusual landscapes. The artist calls his works "ritual painting" and refers to conceptual symbolism. He is interested not so much in the plot of the work as in the very process of creating a picture, this is the inspired state of sublimity, lightness, peace and tranquility that accompanies him. Therefore, the artist does not seek to write out as many details as possible, but seeks to designate only the central objects, the most important for correct perception. And color helps him to reveal the artistic intent, and simply enlivens the landscape, turning it from a faceless canvas into a characteristic one, adding emotions and mood to the paintings.
Jose Esteban Basso's bright, laconic paintings seem as simple as postcards. But this is only at first glance, and only until such a postcard appears before the public in all its glory, in its original size. Visitors to the expositions of this author note that his landscape color therapy works, and a person seems to be filled with positive, warmth and light, moving from picture to picture, enjoying their simplicity and lightness, a distinctive feature of the creative works of the artist Basso. In addition to painting, he is also fond of photography, installation and computer graphics, and all these works are equally characterized by conciseness, restraint and clarity of composition, in general, the very laconicism that we talked about at the very beginning.
Pictures are given out in the artist by a phlegmatic, but Jose Esteban Basso is a very active person who prefers an active lifestyle. Professor of the Faculty of Arts at Playa Ancha Valparaíso University, he gives painting lessons, lectures and workshops. Participates in international biennials, adequately representing his native country, has repeatedly arranged personal exhibitions, and also willingly participated in group and thematic expositions both at home and abroad. In addition, Jose Esteban Basso plays in a jazz orchestra and is engaged in photography of interiors, and more information about the artist and his creative work can be found on his website.
