Over the past month, part of the Santa Marta slum area in Rio de Janeiro has become a stage for an exciting and spectacular art project. Everyone liked the result: the boring and dull landscape played with all the colors of the rainbow!
The idea for the project, called "Favela Painting", belongs to the Dutch duo Haas & Hahn (Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn). Within its framework, the authors want to turn the slums into real attractions of Rio de Janeiro - the same as the statue of Christ the Redeemer or the Sugarloaf Mountain. First, artists want slum dwellers to be proud of their homes, not ashamed of them. Secondly, this project brings art to the lives of people who simply do not have access to it in any other way.
“This artwork highlights the differences between the lifestyle of slum dwellers and the rest of the city,” says Dre Urhahn. "The project should serve as a catalyst in the processes of social renewal and change." To carry out the work, the authors attracted local residents: 25 young assistants not only painted their houses in bright colors, but also received money for this.
Unfortunately, the project had to be suspended due to heavy rainstorms that covered Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of slum dwellers have been left homeless, and in their eyes, Favela Painting is not just a way to make their homes more beautiful, but above all an attempt to draw public attention to their living conditions and hope for a better change.
To date, the artists have painted 34 houses with a total area of 7000 m2, but the authors emphasize that only part of the project has been completed: in the future they plan to continue their activities.

Colorful favelas - art project for the slums of Sao Paulo
Almost all of us know about favelas - poor areas of Brazilian cities, where people live in terrible living conditions (often without any communications at all). And even the police are afraid to enter these neighborhoods - drug cartels are in power there. But Spanish artists from the Boa Mistura group were not stopped by this ominous glory of the favelas - they made their way there and turned the gray slums into a riot of bright colors
Laconic painting. Bright laconic landscapes of Jose Esteban Basso (José Basso)
If the adage "Brevity is the sister of talent" could be applied to the work of artists, photographers and illustrators, then the Chilean artist José Basso was rightfully considered the king of brevity, brevity and minimalism. His creative works are as "laconic" as it can happen to a painting, and the author conveys the mood, emotions and atmosphere through color, more precisely, the corresponding palette of colors, carefully selected for each of his unusual landscapes
Rhinestones and paints. Bright and brilliant painting by Nata Ibragimov
American artist Nata Ibragimov knows a lot about jewelry, especially Swarovski crystals shining like diamonds. And since the girl loves her pictures no less than herself, she also tries to decorate them with these brilliant babes, thereby adding "glamor" to the positive, vivid pictures that she draws
The bright skull, which became the most expensive painting of the "black Picasso", and other paintings by Basquiat
It often happens that paintings by artists after their death increase significantly in value. The modern black artist from Brooklyn (USA) Jean-Michel Basquiat, who died at the age of 27, was no exception. His work "Untitled" (1982) at last year's May auction at Sotheby's was sold for a fabulous sum of $ 110.5 million. This is the most expensive painting ever sold in the art market and has won the first place in the rating of American artists. It also takes 11 m

Jul Seabrook has been called "the painter who couldn't choose her favorite colors." She creates her work from natural objects - flowers, seashells, eggs and more - and in doing so she uses almost all the colors of the rainbow. In many of her works, strict structuring can be traced, while others are real chaos
