If anyone thinks that the place for pot holders is in the kitchen, next to the stove, then they probably are not familiar with the bright and cheerful installation. Crocheted potholderscreated by designer and artist Anu Tuominen … There was a place in it for potholders of different colors and sizes, and not on the kitchen shelf, but on the huge wall of the exhibition hall. Finnish artist Anu Tuominen does not believe that knitting is an occupation for the elderly and boring people, because it can be as bright and varied as the author's imagination allows. So, at one time she dreamed of a house with endless walls so that they could be modified, decorated and painted, and in her installations she gives free rein to her imagination. For incredible installations, Anu Tuominen uses ordinary things that she finds either in her closet, or in the attics of friends and family, or at flea markets and garage sales. She then regenerates each such thing, giving it a new purpose, turning it into a work of art. In her installation Crocheted Potholders, the girl crocheted colorful potholders, not for the kitchen, but for decoration.
Color and shape can become a powerful visual language, where humor mixes with everyday life, painting it in different shades so that it is not so gray and ordinary. Finnish artist Anu Tuominen wields these tools with dexterity, as can be seen by visiting her website.
