The use of cement in construction has become a kind of fingerprint that humanity leaves on the body of nature. For example, in Spain alone during 2007, 54.2 million tons of this material were spent. The whole world is in a construction boom, and the islands of nature in big cities are getting smaller and smaller. But man is also a part of nature, only the “cement” life swallows him up with his head. Spanish author Isaak Cordal calls this phenomenon "cement eclipse" and tries to find his like-minded people through an art project of the same name.

Within the framework of the Cement eclipses project, Isaac Kordal creates miniature figures of people from cement and, reproducing various situations from life, leaves them on the city streets. The project started in 2006, and since then the attentive residents and guests of Barcelona, London, Berlin, Brussels, Liege and other European cities have been able to see the little people. By the way, a similar project was started in 2006 by a street artist. Slinkachu, with the works of which we introduced our readers a little earlier. But there were also smaller people, and the goal was a little different.

“These little figures represent a kind of metamorphosis, during which people stop playing the role of city dwellers, and instead merge with the metropolitan areas, slowly becoming part of the environment. Thus, the voluntary isolation of human beings from nature, hidden under the sidewalks, behind walls and fences, is confirmed,”says Isaac Kordal.

The life of each installation by Isaac Kordal is short-lived and largely depends on both weather conditions and the behavior of passers-by. Indeed, along with a strong gust of wind, the composition can be destroyed by any person who sees it, taking the figure he likes with him. So very often the only proof of the existence of Kordal's installations is their photographs.
