Felipe Achondo, a young artist from South America, is dedicated to depicting the human body and interiors. His realistic abstractions are full of expression, the characters are mysterious, and the technique is unusual.
What the average viewer imagines when he hears the phrase "oil painting" and the concept of "realism" is unlikely to even approximately resemble the paintings of Achondo. The artist is in a state of permanent search, he works a lot on technique in an attempt to expand the traditional ideas about realism as a traditional direction in art.
At the beginning of his career, Felipe did not resort to depicting people at all. However, they were invisibly present in his paintings: the artist managed to paint the interior in such a way that he seemed to "breathe" with a human presence. Today Filipe writes people much more often than interiors: his priorities have remained unchanged, he is still trying to figure out what a person is.
Recently, the artist presented to the audience a new series of works under the general title "SNAPSHOTS" ("Pictures"). In addition, the outgoing year was rich for Filipe in joint projects with other artists working in related genres. “Getting to know and collaborating with various artists allowed me to expand my own understanding of art, to see the process from a new perspective,” says the artist.
Filipe's colleague in the shop, a contemporary artist from France Pascal Vilcollet, who works in a technique close to Filipe, also managed to find a fine line between reality and abstraction. His new series of works, Filles du Calvaire, is striking not only from an aesthetic point of view. The works are also remarkable for their scale - the size of each painting is 200x160 cm.
