King of France Louis XV state affairs were of little interest - he preferred to spend time in entertainment and pleasure. The king encouraged art, science and medicine, and his greatest passion was women. In addition to his wife and official favorite, he had a whole harem of underage concubines, which he kept in Deer park.
Louis XV came to the throne at the age of five, and the functions of the ruler of the state for him were performed by the regent Philip of Orleans. But even after he matured and could independently pursue his immediate responsibilities, he did not strive to do so.
In 1745, the king met Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, a woman who later became a favorite, close friend and adviser to the king on many issues for many years. She went down in history under the name of the Marquise de Pompadour. According to Louis, in the marquis "passion was like in an ice statue", they did not agree in temperaments, but Pompadour managed to study all the habits and weaknesses of the king. And skillfully took advantage of them. When the marquise realized that she was not able to hold the king's attention as a woman, she became a real pimp for him - she herself picked up mistresses for him and herself removed them when the situation seemed dangerous to her.
The king was terrified of contracting "bad diseases", so he preferred very young and innocent girls. The future favorites were prepared for the "honorable mission" from the very childhood. At the age of 9-12 they were settled in the "Deer Park" - that was the name of the Versailles quarter, built on the site of the hunting grounds of Louis XIII, especially for secret meetings of the king with his favorites.
Teenage girls were bought from their parents, and it must be said that there were not just a lot of people willing - there was no end to them. Here, for example, is a letter from one father of the family: “Driven by ardent love for the sacred royal person, I have the good fortune to be the father of a charming girl, a real miracle of freshness, beauty, youth and health. I would be happy if His Majesty deigned to violate her virginity. Such mercy would be for me the most valuable reward for my long and loyal service in the army of the king …"
Little girls were taught good manners, the basics of religion, reading, writing and, of course, obedience in dealing with a dignitary. They say that Louis even bathed and dressed them himself. When the girl reached the age of 15, she became the king's mistress. The older he himself was, the younger his favorites were. At the age of 17-18, when the girl ceased to attract Louis, she was married off, while she was provided with a good dowry. Many dreamed of such a fate.
The Marquis de Pompadour made sure that none of the mistresses stayed here longer than a year, so that the king did not have time to get used to her, and so that the Marquise herself did not lose her influence. Once a young inhabitant of "Deer Park" Louison Morphy (Louise O'Murphy), who was predicted to play the role of the deputy of the Marquise de Pompadour, dared to ask the king "how the old coquette is doing there." Three days later, she was kicked out of the "Deer Park", and she never saw the king again - he did not tolerate disrespect for the Marquis. Marquise de Pompadour dictated her conditions not only in the king's personal life, but also in the fashion of the Gallant Age: the history of garters - the most exciting accessory in a lady's wardrobe
