New York is one of the most mysterious cities in the world. Not having any special architectural monuments, this city has made many people fall in love with itself - from Bono and Susan Vega to friends and acquaintances of each of us. How does Daniel A. Norman, a photographer born in Brooklyn, one of the most disadvantaged areas of this obscure city, see him?
Daniel A. Norman - who is he? Little is known about his life, besides, he forbids downloading most of his photographs. It is known that he was born in Brooklyn in 1980, was engaged in photography and visual arts. And in 2006, he organized BrooklyNYC LLC - a project dedicated to his hometown, urban lifestyle, photographs of New York and images of his hometown on T-shirts and robes. Judging by the fact that there are several similar projects dedicated to New York in general, or to his native Brooklyn, it is felt that Daniel loves this city no less than, say, Susan Vega, who compared him in one of her songs with a woman from -for which you will shed tears, although for her you are just another guy.
Looking at these photos, in black and white and color, from the air and from the ground, one involuntarily recalls the British Jason Hawkes, who was imbued with the same love for London and took stunning aerial photographs of his beloved city. There are also less similar projects, which, nevertheless, are also saturated with love for certain places - for example, vintage photos of Alex Prager, saturated with the spirit of California, or Hyun Bing and his Chinese dreams. And of course, winter St. Petersburg.
Modern cities, completely devoid of the pristine natural component, nevertheless, will always attract artists with their mystery, one of the components of which is the ability of this huge concrete giant to squeeze all the juices out of you.
His photographs are available for viewing in a very convenient slideshow mode on his official website. There are also several links to other sites to which Daniel A. Norman is somehow related.
