Brent Kee Young has been working with glass since the 70s of the last century, and all this time the author never stops experimenting with the possibilities of his favorite material and reaching new heights in creativity and career. Among his most recent works is the Matrix Series. Transparent, delicate, like the finest cobwebs - you will not immediately believe that these works are made of glass!
The Matrix Series are geometric sculptures made of heat-resistant Pyrex glass. The author began work on this series about five years ago and during this time has created about twenty works. Not as many as we would like, but all the works have already appeared in the permanent collections of famous US museums, including the Smithsonian (Washington), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), New Mexico's Museum of Fine Art (Santa Fe), New Mexico's Museum of Fine Art (Toledo).
In the collection "Matrix Series" you can see geometric objects, pieces of furniture, vases. The clear outlines of objects are perfectly combined with the smooth curves of glass lines and their delicate weaving. These pieces are not like the earlier works of Brent Kee Young, which is great: in addition to the high level of craftsmanship and sense of style, innovativeness can be traced here.
Young was born in Los Angeles in 1946. His first education was associated with engineering, but the craving for art took its toll. The author graduated from another university with a Master of Fine Arts and began his teaching career at the Cleveland Institute of Art. It was around this time that he became interested in the skill of the glassblower, devoting his whole life in the future to the study of this practice and its improvement.
