Everything in his life was not at all the same as in the movies. Only love was so big and bright that it was just right to write a novel about it. Anatoly Papanov all his life, until his last breath, loved one and only woman, his Nadezhda. They both went through the war. As corny as it may sound, they both looked death in the eye. And maybe that's why they had a thirst for life and a thirst for love.
Love scorched by war
Anatoly Papanov entered GITIS in 1943, when he returned after two severe wounds from the front. In his last fight, he lost two toes and even came to the entrance exam with a stick. Despite his undoubted talent, members of the examination committee doubted that he would find his place in art. After all, an actor limited in movement is nonsense. But he promised that he would study a lot and give up his wand, although the doctors warned that he would not be able to walk without it. But he was nevertheless admitted to the second year.
He was not too handsome, young Anatoly Papanov. On the very first day of classes, he was struck by his fellow students: smart, beautiful, well-groomed. He was ashamed of them, seemed awkward and too simple to himself. Only one girl, Nadezhda, came to class every day in a military tunic and tarpaulin soldier boots. Once Anatoly sat down with her and asked if she was at the front. It turned out that Nadezhda had been caring for the wounded for two years, traveled as part of an ambulance train and had been to the front line more than once. She was only 17 when the war began.
Anatoly perked up when he realized that Nadia was serving and immediately announced that at last he would have someone to talk to. And they spoke. About the war and about the front-line comrades, about the future peaceful life, about my profession. It turned out that they live close to each other, even going to the institute on the same tram route.
They began to come to school together and leave together after school. She really liked him, this talented and shy young man. Step by step, Anatoly and Nadezhda became closer to each other. And when on May 9, 1945, everyone was celebrating Victory Day on Red Square, he suddenly said in the middle of the jubilant crowd that they needed to sign. After all, he loves her, and she loves him, everyone knew that. They submitted an application to the registry office on the same day, and on May 20, Anatoly and Nadezhda became husband and wife.
Being together is the highest reward
The young family settled in a room in a communal apartment, divided into two halves by plywood. The newlyweds lived in one, and Nadia's parents lived in the other. Closely, but amicably.
Anatoly graduated from the institute with honors, he was invited to work at once by three metropolitan theaters. But his beloved Nadenka was assigned to Klaipeda. And Papanov refused all offers to follow his wife. They were now in Moscow on short visits. We visited our parents, walked along the familiar Moscow streets. On one of our visits, we accidentally met Andrei Goncharov, a young director whom we had known since their student days. He invited Papanov to his Theater of Satire. Nadezhda managed to persuade her husband to accept the offer.
They were very bored in separation, called up every day, but this was not enough for them. Fortunately, the theater in Klaipeda was soon disbanded, Nadezhda also returned to Moscow. In 1954, little Helen was born, the happiness and hope of the family. And soon he was offered a serious role in a theatrical production, and he sincerely believed that it was his daughter who brought him luck. Soon they were given a room in a hostel, and then the Papanov family moved to their own separate apartment.
The secret of never fading love
The couple worked in the Theater of Satire for forty years. Anatoly Papanov sincerely believed that there should be one theater, like a wife - one. Anatoly Dmitrievich acted in films a lot, participated in performances, voiced cartoons. But he knew for sure that at home he was always expected and loved. He was a deeply decent, very humble, kind and very devoted person. In all her life, Nadezhda Yurievna had no reason to be jealous of her husband's numerous fans. She was sure of him, just as he was sure that Nadya would never betray him.
He did not know how to speak loud words about love. He just took care of his family and did everything to make them happy. They divided everything in half, Anatoly and his faithful Nadezhda. When Papanov began to get involved in alcohol, she tried to wean him from his bad habit. But he gave up drinking himself, at one point, after the death of his mother. And since then I haven't taken a drop of alcohol in my mouth.
Even in the difficult Soviet times, when religion and faith were virtually banned, Anatoly Papanov always went to the temple before the performance. He never advertised it, but his soul always gravitated towards God. Perhaps thanks to faith, the actor managed to maintain a deep spiritual purity.
They were really happy people, understanding each other from a half-glance. They never fought for professional leadership. Nadezhda Yurievna, realizing how multifaceted her husband's talent is, she herself chose a supporting role for herself, providing her husband with a reliable rear. She touchingly took care of her beloved. If he asked her to go with him to the shooting or to accompany him on tour, she postponed all her affairs, resolved the issue with the theater and went with him in order to create comfortable conditions for the life of a genius husband in standard hotel rooms. She did not sacrifice herself. She just truly loved. And she always considered herself a very happy woman, endowed with the talent to love and be loved.
Love and memory
Anatoly Dmitrievich did not become a hot day on August 5, 1987. Nadezhda Yurievna still cherishes her love. In his office, everything remained exactly the same as during his lifetime. And even today she serves in the Theater of Satire, to which her husband gave his whole life. Because everything there is connected with him, everything reminds of him, and it is impossible for her to live without these memories. She was happy and loved for over forty years. She continues to love now, 30 years after his death. Her love is stronger than eternal separation.
Anatoly Papanov and Nadezhda Karataeva knew that love is not just words. And another actor - Ivan Okhlobystin, contrary to all the rules of the Russian language, he believes that love is a verb meaning action.
