To find their own style and signature, some artists spend whole years on various creative experiments. And for others - and life is not enough. Young artist from Bulgaria Veselka Velinova I decided to turn the search process into an entertaining activity, combining two of my favorite hobbies: one of which is painting, and the second is a passion for cats. And what came out of this experiment, then - in the review.
A talented Bulgarian artist, illustrator and designer Veselka Velinova lives and works in Sofia. She has been painting professionally for the second decade, and during this time she has developed her own style. Working on a variety of projects, from book illustrations to computer games, Veselka draws for the soul in her free time. And, in order to improve her skills, the girl periodically tries painting styles of world-famous artists - from Picasso and Van Gogh to Kandinsky and Chagall.
It should be noted that creative experiments are Veselka Velinova's strong point. As a result of another original idea and artistic design, an incredible cycle of works of 12 paintings with cats appeared in her work, each of which is drawn in the artistic style inherent in a famous master of the past or in a whole direction in art.
- Veselka Velinova recalls her student years. -
Inspired by the works of masters of the last century, the young artist created her own series of paintings, in which she depicted cats, adhering to the styles of famous artists and painting directions - from futurism to naturalism. She tried to use not only the artistic style and manner of performance of each of them, but also to reflect the techniques characteristic of each artistic period. For her paintings Veselka used watercolors, tempera and collage, whichever best suits the artist's style.
Her fun cat guide to world painting will allow many uninitiated viewers to understand how different styles of art differ from each other.
And how well the Bulgarian artist did it - judge for yourself.
1. Cat in the style of Vincent Van Gogh
In her work, the artist quoted two canvases of the brilliant painter - "Starry Night" and "Midday Rest". Vincent van Gogh worked in the style of post-impressionism, which originated in France, starting in the second half of the 1880s, and developed until the beginning of the 20th century.
Curiously, the painters of this trend refused to depict only visible reality - as naturalists, as well as a momentary impression - as impressionists. They strove to depict the environment, "imitating nature", and at the same time, resorting to decorative stylization.
2. Cat in the style of Joan Miró
The direction of his work is abstract art. Miro is also close to surrealism, the artist's works are like rambling children's drawings and contain figures that are vaguely similar to real objects.
3. Cats in the style of Gustav Klimt
The idea for these romantic stylized cats is definitely taken from the painting by Gustav Klimt "The Kiss". Klimt was one of the most popular artists representing the Art Nouveau style that emerged and developed in the first quarter of the 20th century.
A well-known Austrian artist, he was the founder of Art Nouveau in Austrian painting. The main subject of his work was the female body, which is distinguished by frank eroticism.
4. A cat in the style of Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Kandinsky is a Russian artist and theorist of fine arts, who stood at the origins of abstract art in the first half of the 20th century. Probably, his painting "Two Ovals" served as a source of inspiration for the Bulgarian artist.
5. Cat in the style of Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso is a Spanish and French painter, sculptor, graphic artist, theater artist, ceramist and designer. The founder of Cubism, in which a three-dimensional object was depicted in an original manner as a series of planes aligned together.
6. Cat in the style of Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall is a Belarusian and French artist, one of the most famous representatives of the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century. By the way, images of people often fly in Chagall's paintings. He especially liked to send lovers on the flight. The artist seems to literally embody the metaphor through paints: "to fly with happiness."
7. Georges Seurat style cat
Georges Seurat is a French post-impressionist painter, the founder of neo-impressionism, the creator of the original painting method called pointillism. The excellent style of the Frenchman inspired Veselka, and she "quoted" his painting "The Seine near La Grande Jatte in the spring." And, curiously, according to the artist, “pointillism” became the biggest challenge of all styles for her.
But then Velinova's works will follow, which are not related to the technique, which is usually associated with only one master. The Bulgarian artist was inspired to create them by whole areas of art: futurism, naturalism, pop art.
8. Egyptian art
9. Pop art style
10. Japanese art
11. Naturalism
12. Futurism
Presenting her works to the audience, Velinova said:
Of course, the artist did not stop at this experiment, and continues to experiment further: “I decided to make a painting based on Salvador Dali, a painting with a Chinese brush, which will be a big challenge for me, since this is a very difficult technique, I also want to try engraving. I will also try to recreate the style of the Bulgarian artist Vladimir Dimitrov-Maystor. And we just have to wish the young talent good luck in his work …
