May 24 marks the 74th anniversary of the famous theater and film actress, Honored Artist of Russia Svetlana Toma. All-Union popularity was brought to her by the main role in the film "Tabor Goes to Heaven", after which the Moldovan actress was called the main gypsy of the country. Her daughter, Irina Lachina, also became an actress, although from childhood she knew well about all the complexities of this profession. Years later, Svetlana Toma admitted that for a long time she felt guilt before her daughter, and over the years they had a rather difficult relationship, until Irina experienced what her mother had to go through …
How Sveta Fomicheva from Chisinau became the main gypsy in the USSR
Neither she herself nor her relatives suspected that she would become the main gypsy of the country in the future. Her real name is Fomicheva, she was born and raised near Chisinau. Her father was Russian, and her mother's family mixed French, Hungarian, Russian and Austrian blood. There were no gypsies among her ancestors, and at first her relations with representatives of this nationality did not work out. As a child, she was afraid of gypsies, but, ironically, in one of her first films she played the role of a gypsy, where the actors of the Romen theater starred with her. Svetlana recalled: "".
Svetlana was studying at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chisinau, intending to become an investigator for the prosecutor's office or a lawyer when a case intervened in her fate. Once, at a trolleybus stop, a man approached her, introduced himself as director Emil Loteanu and offered to come to audition. Svetlana reacted to this proposal with caution, and the director had to be persistent and even visit her relatives in order to convince them to let the underage girl go to the shooting. So Svetlana got her first leading role in the film "Red Glades".
Emil Loteanu believed that Fomichev's surname was not sonorous enough for an actress and persuaded her to take a pseudonym. There was no need to invent it: Tom is the surname of her French great-grandmother, so the emphasis in it falls on the second syllable. For the director, the young actress became his creation, his muse, his Galatea. Their relationship quickly grew from professional to romantic, and they began to live in a civil marriage.
Lotyanu turned Tom into an all-Union star: 10 years after her film debut, she played the role of the gypsy Rada in the film Tabor Goes to Heaven, which brought her deafening popularity. On the screens, the gypsies took her for their own, but in life they did not recognize her, because behind the scenes she was not at all like her heroine.
The most difficult is the role of the mother
Their family union with Emil Loteanu broke up earlier than the creative one. The director soon married a young actress Galina Belyaeva, and Svetlana Toma married her classmate, actor Oleg Lachin. In 1972 their daughter Irina was born. When she was only 8 months old, her father passed away. Svetlana told: "".
Irina lived with her grandparents until the age of 14 and saw her mother only when she came to them in between filming. But Irina considers her childhood very happy - harmony and mutual understanding reigned in the relationship between her grandparents, and their family became an example for her. The peak of Svetlana Toma's popularity fell on her childhood, but even in those days she hid from others who her mother was. According to Irina, she always had a hypertrophied sense of independence, and from her youth she wanted to prove that she could achieve success without her mother's help.
Irina Lachina's own way
When Irina Lachina decided to enter the Shchukin school, she forbade her mother to approach the school with a cannon shot. They had different surnames, and that suited Irina - she always wanted to be judged not through the prism of the popularity of the "gypsy Rada", but only by her own talents and acting skills. After graduating from college, Lachina performed on the stage of the Taganka Theater and Sovremennik and acted in films. In the early 1990s. the actress starred in the films Wandering Stars and French Waltz, and gained popularity in the early 2000s when she began acting in TV series.
Irina did not harbor resentment against her mother for not receiving her attention and care in childhood, but their relationship was not easy for many years. Svetlana Toma admitted: "".
Daughters-mothers
Their relationship improved after Irina Lachina herself became a mother. When she married actor Oleg Budrin, both her mother and her husband's parents were at first wary of their marriage. The husband's mother was convinced that her daughter-in-law was from a Gypsy family, and that the Gypsy daughter had turned her son around out of mercantile interests. Later they all managed to find a common language, and the birth of Masha's granddaughter finally reconciled both the mother-in-law and the mother-in-law. When the girl grew up, she also began to defend her independence, and then Irina realized how difficult it was for her mother to be with her.
Masha calls her grandmother simply by name - Sveta. Looking at the actress, who is already over 70, probably no one will dare to call her a grandmother, because the actress looks great today and continues to act in films. By virtue of her profession, Irina also could not spend a lot of time with her daughter and from an early age taught her to be independent, which, as she believes, definitely benefited her. But the grandmother often spoiled her granddaughter. Lachina confessed: "". However, different views on Masha's upbringing are probably now the only reason for disputes between Svetlana Toma and Irina Lachina.
Irina Lachina is not the only actress who chose the same profession that made her mother famous: 7 screen stars who followed in the footsteps of their mothers.
