In the entire history of cinematography, there has not been a film that would appeal to all spectators at the same time. Even the highest rated movies on Rotten Tomatoes have critics, just like the lowest rated movies have fans. What happens in the film, its storyline and the play of the main actors are absolute taste, which can either please the viewer in a certain mood, or be completely rejected by him. That is why most films cannot be classified as good or bad, giving them the opportunity to freeze at one point in the evaluative spectrum, fluctuating on the verge of pros and cons.

1. Show girls (1995)

What the movie is about: leaving his dark past behind, Nomi Malone hitchhikes the country, dreaming of getting to Las Vegas and gaining fame as a dancer there. But instead, she takes a job at a second-rate strip club, where her talents are extremely low-rated. Later, when she is deprived of the lead role in several shows in a row, Nomi dreams of taking the place of the main dancer, along the way taking revenge on one of the celebrities who attacked her best friend.

Why is it bad: A couple of talented people worked on the film, namely - director Paul Verhoeven and the soft and sweet Elizabeth Berkeley, best known for the movie "The Bell". This movie became a strange mixture of the director's inclinations for explosive and harsh social criticism, with places frivolous, and sometimes dramatic, about the life of a girl. Verhoeven's approach could have led the film to success, but viewers noted that there was too much of it mixed in. So, we are talking about tough ideas, for example, about erotic scenes with negative connotations or awkward sexual dances, staged by the heroes themselves and about much more. Combined with the quirky plot twists and relationships of the protagonists, this made the film less social and compelling, and also prevented it from gaining popularity as a memorable character story with gripping eroticism. This reputation for the film has led to its title being often used to describe the worst films in the entire industry, thus showing how exactly you shouldn't make a movie.

2. Battlefield: Earth (2000)

What the movie is about: a thousand years later, in 3000 AD, humanity is enslaved by ruthless aliens known as psycles. On Earth, they are commanded by Chief Security Officer Turle, a failed leader who is not appreciated by his superiors. Therefore, going against the orders in front of him, Thurl develops a quick enrichment scheme, using human slaves to buy transport from Earth until his idea becomes the key reason for the rebellion on Earth, and humans become able to fight back against the psycle race.

Why is it bad: Based on a book by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, this movie is considered the greatest monetary flop in history. The film, which had everything needed to be successful, including famous actors, an impressive budget, a tolerable sci-fi background, and a more or less understandable plot, was the reason why its director, Roger Christian, lost more than $ 40 million without accounting for the advertising campaign. Despite the fact that John Travolta himself invested a lot of his own money in the film, counting on the fact that he will direct several parts, he still remains the most invaluable blockbuster at the box office, which will become the starting point for the rest of the films of this genre. It is worth noting the fact that the reaction to it was so ambiguous and negative that most modern critics even refused to give any comments about the release of such a strange and even inappropriate picture based on pseudo-Scientology ideas.

3. Shine (2001)

What the movie is about: aspiring and ambitious singer Billy Frank is making a real tour of small clubs with her friends, singers that no one has ever noticed or recognized. In the constant pursuit of money and fame, Billy signs a contract with a very unscrupulous manager Timothy Walker. A little later, the girl is noticed by the famous producer - Julian Black, who "ransoms" Billy from Timothy and sets off with her on a joint musical voyage full of romantic moments. However, happiness does not last long and Timothy intervenes in the game, demanding to return his unpaid debt.

Why is it bad: This film was produced in collaboration with singer Mariah Carey and writer Cheryl L. West and director Vondi Curtis Hall, which caused the film to be permanently delayed at the box office. The result was a tape that consisted entirely of the classic rags-to-riches cliché, as well as borrowing most of the elements from the more popular films about the hip-hop industry. In addition to the light background and melodrama, "Glitter" boasted an overly complex story that would confuse even Sherlock himself, and also had a huge number of characters that could not be revealed even on the maximum budget. Therefore, this film has become a typical example of what happens when successful musicians decide to try their hand at acting, trying to show a common and banal story, which fails due to excessive drama and a huge amount of show. And worst of all, for this movie, the star was not even able to record her own soundtrack that her fans would love.

4. Room (2003)

What the movie is about: Johnny is a successful San Francisco banker who enjoys a happy life full of passionate love with his fiancée Lisa. He is generous enough to her, and spoils her with elegant dresses and gifts, handing out money left and right, supporting even her student friend at the moment when he has a money crisis. However, at some point, Lisa becomes bored with Johnny, and she turns her attention to her own friend Mark, trying in every possible way to seduce him. Blinded by the betrayal of his fiancée, Johnny sets out to take her out into the open and explain the dangers of drug use along the way.

Why is it bad: Along with Troll 2, this movie is considered the best-bad movie in all of cinema. Although a writer, actor and producer all rolled into one, Tommy Viso initially claimed that his film was a serious drama, after its release he renounced his words, claiming that he always saw "The Room" as an exclusively black comedy. Despite the criticism pouring down from all sides, comedians and moviegoers took the side of the director, who found something interesting in this exaggeratedly funny comedy. After some time, this film became one of the first to be staged in cinemas in the interactive genre. This meant that everyone could shout out their favorite lines while watching, throw popcorn at the screen, make rude and unflattering remarks about the acting or the film itself.

5. Gigli (2003)

What the movie is about: This is the story of the hapless gangster Larry Gigli, who is tasked with kidnapping the younger brother of the senior prosecutor in order to protect the main mobster in Los Angeles. When his boss Luis begins to worry about the quality of the operation, he sends Ricky's girlfriend to Larry so that she can follow Gigli and help carry out his plan. However, the couple's feelings for each other flare up, and therefore everything goes a little not according to plan, especially when Louis decides to go down the path of violence, blackmailing the chief prosecutor.

Why is it bad: Despite the fact that the film was initially positioned as a romantic comedy, which had a rather complicated story, its writer and director Martin Brest grossed as much as 75 million for filming. Unfortunately, famous stars such as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez played in this film. But even Bennifer failed to save the film from such an apparent failure. This film was bombed in the first three weeks, which is why it brought in only 7 million worldwide, after which it was disgraced in disgrace. Most critics blamed Brest itself for this because of an incredibly complex story that was saturated with stereotypes, clichés and even narrative clichés. Nevertheless, the main part of the criticism fell on the fact that Brest failed to squeeze even a drop of romance from the star couple Bennifers, who felt quite well together outside the cameras.

6. From Justin to Kelly (2003)

What the movie is about: Three student friends who are studying to be promoters are heading to Fort Lauderdlale for spring break, dreaming of rest and new experiences. There they meet Kelly's girlfriend and her friend Alexa. Passion instantly flares up between Kelly and Justin, and the couple are not completely against starting a romantic relationship, however, the girl's lost number prevents this. Alexa, her friend, decides to take advantage of the situation and seduce Justin, which leads to a series of misunderstandings and adventures.

Why is it bad: films that are more "commodities" than art are no longer news, and even the largest Hollywood studios sin by releasing something with which they want to cut off a myriad of money without investing a lot of money on the creation itself. Despite this, this picture is one of the most disastrous in terms of money. The filmmakers tried to play on the then popularity of "American Idol", openly exploiting this theme to siphon funds from the audience, without even trying to create the appearance of chemistry between the characters or come up with a coherent plot. After seeing what the final product had become, 20th Century Fox wanted to make the film public on TV just six weeks after it was sold. However, the cinemas were massively outraged, and therefore the studio had to abandon the original idea. When the tape was bombarded with negative reviews, the company still released the film on DVD and VHS, thereby trying to work off the money spent on its creation.

7. Catwoman (2004)

What the movie is about: Patience Philips is a humble graphic designer who works for a renowned cosmetics manufacturer. Exactly until she accidentally stumbles upon information that talks about the dangerous side effects of the company's new line of anti-aging cream. Killed for trying to uncover the truth, Patience is resurrected with the help of a cat and the Egyptian goddess Bast to become a catwoman - a supernatural spirit of revenge and protector of the innocent.

Why is it bad: Inspired by the success of Tim Burton's superhero series Batman, DC dreamed of releasing a film about a strong, strong-willed woman. However, director Pitof took on too much responsibility, which he could not really cope with. So, because of him, the story of the catwoman was as much as possible divorced from the original (the comic book itself), and the character turned out to be empty and cardboard, not carrying not only a multi-layered and interesting character, but even as such pro-feminism that can attract cinemas for a certain group of people. The film failed on all fronts, with a convoluted mythology and a bizarre plot, and also showed Halle Berry's sexuality above the need for plot development, which became a kind of rather boring cliché. Confident that this particular catwoman will be the last in a line of female superheroes most popular in comics, Pitof even managed to stick a scene with Michelle Pfeiffer's headshot into Batman Returns, trying to somehow become attached to the release of a solo film …

8. Alone in the Dark (2005)

What the movie is about: After scientific experiments that allowed Edward Carnby to acquire a supernatural instinct and the ability to recognize paranormal entities, he undergoes field training in a top secret government organization whose task is to hunt down mystical threats. Years later, Carnby embarks on a journey around the world, exploring various occult dangers, but at some point he stumbles upon the remains of mysterious demonic adepts, which give him a clue to his past.

Why is it bad: this film was the second attempt to adapt the cult computer game from Uwe Boll, who is hated by fans of such series as House of the Dead, Postal, BloodRayne I - III, Far Cry, the Dungeon Siege, as well as the film "In the Name of the King" and other projects … This picture was frankly ridiculed for an indistinct paranormal line that seemed more funny than frightening, for the confusion of the story, a small and meager budget, as well as ridiculous dialogues and completely soulless, devoid of logic of action. Ball himself accuses critics and viewers of simply not appreciating his work. At the same time, the film's screenwriter Blair Erickson said that Uwe simply did not know how to make a good and exciting story, and therefore replaced the vivid narrative with clumsy special effects, cinematic clichés and half-naked women.

And this one is all over the world. But who knows if these films will be able to meet the expectations of the viewer, because some of them, having been released, have already managed to cause outrage among the public.
