Video: Cinema masterpieces highly praised by critics and not accepted by the audience

It often happens that films, about which critics speak with enthusiasm, leave conflicting feelings in the soul of the audience. Moreover, the latter admit that, having seen such masterpieces once, they will not be mastered the second time. What is the reason for such disagreements? Indeed, many ordinary people do not deny that the pictures, which will be discussed below, are filmed with high quality, evoke strong feelings and generally raise urgent questions. But for some reason, all the same, these films do not occupy the leading places in the list of requests. Let's try to figure out why this happened.
Requiem for a Dream
This film is worth watching, if only because it stars the handsome Jared Leto. However, that is why the audience dares to include "Requiem for a Dream". And the beginning of the picture is more than optimistic and life-affirming: the ordinary life of ordinary people with their dreams, aspirations, work, worries … Sarah dreams of getting on a TV show, her son and a friend want to get rich, their friend dreams of opening a fashion store … But everything changes into one a moment, and I don't even want to remember the ending: dreams of a good life break on harsh reality. Some heroes are forced to sell their bodies in order to get the next dose, others go crazy, others slowly but surely behave to death … Many viewers admit that after watching "Requiem …" they have an oppressive sediment in their souls. Why do people usually watch movies? To wait for the happy ending. And in this picture there is not even a hint of him. On the contrary, the creators vividly and in detail describe how souls fall into the abyss. Strong movie? Yes. But only a few dare to revise it.
12 years of slavery
In this film there is a happy ending, and a good script, and a great cast, and questions that have been answered, and realistic scenes … It would seem that you will not find fault. However, not all viewers dared to watch to the end the picture of how a man, having fallen into slavery, finally reunites with his family. What went wrong? Viewers note that the film turned out great, but they would not dare to revise the realistic scenes of violence again.
Irreversibility
It is believed that many viewers refuse to watch this film due to the fact that at the beginning they used a low-frequency sound, similar to the noise of an earthquake, after which people start to have headaches, nausea and anxiety. However, the director of "Irreversible" Gaspard Noe was counting on this. However, many who coped with the excitement and dared to watch the picture to the end regretted having done it. Recall that the main character of the picture is looking for a man who raped his wife. Just the same she was played by Monica Bellucci, who is still reproached for the fact that she dared to act in such a cruel scene. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, but more than 200 people immediately left the hall, some even needed medical attention, and during the scene of rape and murder, several spectators fainted. Even the police were shocked, who, it would seem, saw something different from their duty. But people were struck not even by the cruelty of the crime itself, but by how indifferent those around them relate to it, relying on the principle “my house is on the edge”. How can I not mention a casual passer-by who saw everything, but decided to leave.
127 hours
Again, we will not argue with the fact that the picture turned out to be good. The gripping story of a climber who was trapped and forced to spend 6 days in it due to the fact that his hand was squeezed by a huge stone. Excellent acting by actor James Franco. But the film is still heavy. Indeed, in order to get out, the hero was forced to amputate his own hand. This very scene is shown in a very naturalistic way: a penknife, tendons tearing, a sea of blood … There are not many who want to re-watch this scene.
Boy in striped pajamas
As already mentioned, the audience, despite even the harshest scenario, is always waiting for a happy ending. And even if he is not there, they still believe that the heroes will all the same in the future, everything will work out. Otherwise, why watch movies if there is enough cruelty in everyday life? But directors aren't always ready to make their fans happy by giving them hope for the best. "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is just one of these films. It is a story about the friendship of two boys, despite the fact that their communication is basically impossible. One of them is the son of a Nazi commandant, the other is a concentration camp prisoner. And between them there is a barbed wire. This is precisely the case when evil triumphs over good, no matter how regrettable it may sound.
Dead Man's Shoes
The gruesome reality is why audiences disliked Dead Man's Shoes. The plot is also simple: Richard from a provincial town served in the army for 8 years, and when he returned home, he found out that his mentally retarded brother had contacted drug dealers. Now the main character dreams of one thing - to take revenge on the offenders. And it was the wrong side of ordinary life, realistically shown in the film, that scared the audience so much. Many of them are unlikely to want to plunge into this world again.
Something's Wrong with Kevin
It is difficult to call this film boring. On the contrary, many viewers admit that they watched it, without stopping, from beginning to end. The plot itself is interesting: Eva, played by Tilda Swinton, putting aside her career ambitions, devotes herself to raising her son. But the relationship of close people did not work out especially, and as a teenager, the child does the irreparable. However, not everyone will decide to re-watch the film. After all, it is very difficult to admit that parents, most often wishing only good things for their children, do not always choose the right methods of upbringing. Even more, these methods sometimes harm the child. And to see how Tilda Swinton is again tormented by mental anguish, excuse me, somehow I don’t want to.
The grave of the fireflies
It's not really a movie. That is, this is a film, but created in the anime genre. And such pictures, as a rule, are positive and uncomplicated. But the Japanese "Grave of the Fireflies" is an exception. The plot is also unusual for an animated film: the boy Sate and his sister Setsuko live during the Second World War and lose their parents. A teenager, instantly growing up, takes responsibility for the fate of a loved one and tries to survive in a world where everything is destroyed by war. The harsh reality leaves such a depressing impression that even adults are not ready to face it. Few people want to relive the moments when children find a dead mother.
Oldboy
Another film that the audience watched in one breath. An interesting plot, high-quality shooting (which is only a three-minute fight, shot in one frame), talented actors. The story is this: O Dae-su is kidnapped by unknown people and sent to a room where there is no light source at all, and he gets stuck there for 15 long years. The script is interesting, but the ending is disappointing for many. After all, most of the viewers did not understand why it was necessary to introduce the main character into a strange game that brought him into a love drama with his daughter.

Appearance "with a twist", or Celebrities who do not fit into generally accepted standards of beauty
Agree that we often share the myth of the ideal beauty of movie and show business stars. Meanwhile, celebrities are ordinary people with their own flaws, and not at all a standard of beauty. And often they have such defects of the body, which some are even ready to call "ugliness". It's all about the ability to "present yourself", appear in a winning light and make a "highlight" a non-standard appearance. Moreover, foreign stars are more tolerant of their little problems and speak frankly about them

World renowned and one of the most beloved artists of the conservative part of American society, Andrew Wyeth is one of the most expensive contemporary artists of the 20th century. How a nugget from Belarus discovered the psychology of the XXI century - and it was not accepted in the XX
When you retell the ideas of the outstanding Soviet psychologist Vygotsky on how to raise children with various developmental disabilities, you come across the fact that people perceive them as “modern”, “urgent”, “tolerant” and even… “American”. However, Vygotsky was born and raised in Belarus, not the United States, and wrote down his ideas in the early Soviet years. How did he manage to be so ahead of time?
