The idea of a terrible transformation of a representative of the human race into a forest predator is now well known not only to collectors of folklore and scriptwriters of horror films, but also to ordinary residents of the capital of Mongolia. At the end of 2012, in the central park of Ulaanbaatar, artists from the group FAILE installed a sinister art object called "The wolf inside" (Wolf Within).
The sculpture, just over five meters high, is made of steel, granite and fiberglass. Despite the fact that artists from FAILE presented to Mongolia, which can hardly be called one of the financial centers of the world, in fact, "The Wolf Inside" is a warning to the entire Western civilization at once, and to the system of the market economy in particular. "We make Western audiences understand that a bull market cannot last forever, and a system without balance will sooner or later self-destruct," said FAILE officials. The "bull" market in the economy, we recall, is the situation of an increase in the stock market situation on the stock exchange, from which the "bulls" - players and speculators especially benefit.
"The Wolf Inside" was included in a series of works FAILE, the work on which began in 2008 in connection with the global economic crisis. However, even if we forget about the metaphorical meaning of "wolf", it is still impressive: it is a frightening work that looks especially impressive against the background of the Mongolian landscape scorched by the sun.
The image of a wolf inspires many artists about whom we write on Kulturologia.ru: remember at least the installation "Head On" Xiao Gu-Quang or gratographic works by an American artist of Romanian descent Christina Penescu … Artists from FAILE decided on a rather bold "link", combining the image of the beast, bursting out of a person, with an allusion to modern economic realities. No matter how far in its development Western civilization has gone, an animal still sits inside every employee of the stock exchange in an ironed suit.

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous statues in the world. She stands in New York and looks towards the ocean. There are fragments of chains under her feet. Obviously, all this has its own meaning, but what?

Sinister nostalgia: women and their dolls in the Vera Saltzman photo project
A project by Canadian photographer Vera Saltzman is both dry exploratory precision and piercing candor. In the portraits of Vera Zaltsman, women in their forties appear side by side with their favorite children's dolls - the effect of these photographs, in her opinion, refers to the Freudian concept of "sinister"
Sinister "Jumpers": How 100 years ago a gang of "living dead" frightened Petersburgers
In the spring of 1920, several St. Petersburg policemen, disguised as ordinary citizens, strolled through the dark back streets of the northern capital. Finally, they saw what they had been waiting for: strange white figures in shrouds, moving in huge leaps, surrounded the allegedly gaping passers-by. True, this time the "victims" did not start running away from the "ghosts" as usual, but pointed weapons at the criminals. So the gang was arrested, which for about two years robbed the inhabitants of Petrograd. The fear that the terrible
