Recycling materials every year it is becoming an increasingly important component of the industry in the world. This positive trend is dedicated to sculpture Atlas Recycledcreated by the artist Tom Tsuchiya.
Atlas is a hero of ancient Greek myths who held the firmament on his shoulders, preventing it from falling to Earth. In the modern tradition, he is depicted holding the globe. It was in this form that the sculptor Tom Tsuchiya showed it. And as a material for his work, he used recycled aluminum cans, plastic bottles and, of course, paper.
The sculpture Atlas Recycled symbolizes a world that, choking on the growth of industry, is about to fall into the abyss. And only Atlas made of recycled materials can save him.
The frame of the sculpture was made by Tsuchiya from recycled wood, which he covered with foam, metal, plastic and paper, also used. And in order to give the globe, which this Atlas is holding, an appropriate look, the sculptor used thirty old maps and atlases.
The use of recycled materials, according to the artist, can, if not prevent, then at least postpone the destruction of our world. And the Atlas created from them is a great metaphor for how individual enthusiasts are fighting to preserve the future of the Earth.
The Atlas Recycled sculpture is installed near the Washington D. C.'s National Mall in the capital of the United States of America.
