Video: So the same, and so different. Photo project "One is not like the other" by Jocelyn Allen

From childhood, the child is told how he looks like his mother, father, grandfather, great-grandmother, older brother, or even sister. When the baby grows up, those around him again begin to look for similarities with relatives in him, but already in character, habits and actions. Well, who has never heard the phrase "you behave the same as your mother," abandoned in their hearts by an angry father, or "you are the spitting image of a father" - already from your mother? English photographer Jocelyn Allen in his photo project One is not like the other tries to show how different are those who are constantly compared with each other. Preparing pictures for the project, Jocelyn decided to be in the "shoes" of her closest people: for a while "become" a mom and dad, a grandfather and an old nanny, as well as younger sisters. “No matter how much my family moves from place to place, and no matter how much I myself travel, these people have always been and remain with me,” says Jocelyn. - "And these photos are another reason to remind yourself of them, and for them - about me."
And no matter how similar outwardly, in character, in the habits and manner of speaking native people may be, in photographs, as well as in life, the individuality of each of them shines through. You can see the personality, the nature of the person. And the task of each of us is not to lose this very personality, to remain ourselves, to grow and follow our own path. Yes, even if you are in something, and even if in many ways, you are similar, this does not mean that the same fate awaits you, and you should go the same way. Everyone has their own - that's why he is a personality.
In addition to this photo project, Jocelyn Allen has a lot of unusual stories in photographs, and you can look at each of them on the photographer's personal website.

What sideways, tonsure, gumenzo and other men's hairstyles look like in different denominations
It is unlikely that in the history of civilization there was at least some long era when hair would not have been given special, even sacred significance. Almost all denominations ordered women to forget about haircuts, and hide their hair from others under a scarf or other headdress. With men's hairstyles, everything was more complicated
One million coffee beans. One World, One Family, One Coffee: another mosaic of Saimir Strati
This Albanian maestro, multiple "record holder" for mosaics, Saimir Strati, has already been met by the readers of Culturology.Ru on the pages of the site. It was he who created a painting of 300,000 screws and a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci from nails, and also laid out images from corks and toothpicks. And the new mosaic, on which the author is working today, probably cost him more than one hundred cups of strong aromatic coffee, since he lays it out from a million coffee beans
"Created by Equals": a scandalous photo project about completely different and at the same time so similar people
This photo project was released back in 2012, when fashion photographer Mark Laita created the provocative Created Equal series. With his project, he decided to remind humanity that completely different people live in the world, but at the same time they must have something in common. Perhaps to some, these pictures will seem politically incorrect, but in fact they reflect the essence of life
Same genetics, but different preferences: Identical twins with different orientations
Scientists cannot give an unequivocal answer to what forms a person's sexual orientation. They call both the genetic predisposition, the influence of hormones, and the psychological influence of the environment. Dr. Tewsday Watts, together with a team of doctors and psychologists, decided to study this phenomenon with the help of several pairs of identical twins, in which one twin is hetero and the other is not
