There are six waterfalls in Trou de Fer canyon. The upper reaches of the Bras de Cavernet river is located at an altitude of 210 m, but this waterfall is rather sparse, rarely full-flowing. All the power of the water element can be seen on other slopes, where the river rushes down with a roar. After overcoming the canyon, the Bras de Caverne flows into the Riviere du Mat, which feeds the Indian Ocean.

Despite the fact that the era of great geographical discoveries is traditionally associated with the 15th - 17th centuries, the Tru de Fer canyon was discovered much later, at the end of the 20th century. Since 1989, the first travelers have appeared here who have chosen this picturesque place. Today, athletes (most often French) who are fond of canyoning are happy to try their hand at overcoming the inaccessible cliffs of Trou de Fer.

Tru de Fer, like any canyon, is a giant volcanic rift, making it almost impossible to get to the very heart of Reunion Island. The unique flora and fauna of the island was formed without harmful human impact, so here you can find many endemic plants, including giant ferns and lichens. Unfortunately, in recent decades, the pristine lands of the canyon are increasingly attracting the attention of people, the deforestation of protected forests is gradually taking place, which leads to the disappearance of rich flora and fauna. According to scientists, over 30 species of animals and plants have disappeared from Reunion over the past centuries. Note that on our website Kulturologiya.ru we have already written about another island-reserve, Socotra, whose nature is also unique.
