Many people regard Apple products as something sacred, carrying a sacred meaning. But, nevertheless, these are just phones, players and computers. This is what the artist is talking about. Michael Tompert) a series of his works entitled "Apple Destroyed Products".
There are people who idolize gadgets made by Apple, there are people who hate them. But the artist Michael Tompert treats them completely calmly and encourages others to do so.
It all started with an argument between Michael Tompert and his son. He assured the teenager that the iPhone, iPad and iPod are just devices and nothing more. This dispute became so heated that Michael snatched the gadget from his son's hands and smashed it on the floor in a rage. The resulting mess of plastic and microcircuits seemed fine to Tompert, and he photographed it.
Subsequently, he broke more than one gadget from Apple. Several iPhone 4, iPad, iPod nano and MacBook Airs were hit by Michael Tompert's hands. He buys all this equipment at online auctions and then destroys it in a variety of ways.
For example, he shoots them with a pistol, smashes them with a hammer and a sledgehammer, cuts them into pieces, sets them on fire, and then takes photographs of the result. True, he is no longer taking pictures himself. To do this, Tompert brought in professional photographer Paul Fairchild.
Now, together they hold exhibitions around the world, which exhibit photographs of broken Apple-branded gadgets and even released a photo album with these works.
Michael Tompert believes that contemplating the insides of these gadgets, especially the broken insides, truly desacralizes them, makes people look at the iPhone, iPad, iPod and MacBook as a technique, and not as sacred relics.
