From afar sculptures by a Spanish author Bernardi Roig can be mistaken for ordinary, living people. Although, why ordinary people - ordinary people would not get into the situations in which these are: stuck between two columns and burying their noses in a lamp, loaded with a whole bundle of long lamps-logs, standing on the stairs near all the same lamps … This is the visiting card of Bernardi Roig's sculptural works: people and light, man and fire. Bernardi Roig was born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and began his career as an artist, was even awarded several prizes for his work, participated in prestigious exhibitions and galleries. But over time, he turned into a sculptor, author of multimedia installations and videos, which he still does, believing that he has found his own niche in art.
The light sculptures by this master are a long-term project through which the author explores the image of the body, using fire, wood and its combustion products - ash, coal, burnt wood for his works. In Bernardi Roig's sculptures, a person looks like a moth flying into the light, into the fire. And he often meets his death there. By the way, it is known that the author is fascinated by the concept of death, the philosophy of symbolism and in general is inclined to think a lot about life and death, and perhaps that is why his works are so gloomy, despite the presence of light in them.
Today Bernardi Roig lives and works in the capital of Spain, Madrid, where you can see his sculptures in modern art galleries or during his exhibitions. However, you can also admire the original sculptures of the master on the website with his portfolio.
