On June 10, 1922, the magnificent actress and singer Judy Garland died. On the day of the funeral, Ray Bolger, who was the co-star of the most stellar movie The Wizard of Oz, said that the actress was simply worn out. And that was the sheer truth. Indeed, in her youth, the actress was already a hysterical person who was tired of everything: from roles, children, attention of fans, people who surrounded her, and life itself. What exactly was the reason that the brilliant and talented actress lived her short life so sadly. And what really was her path to fame.

Thorny path to glory

Many psychologists of that time argued that all the words of the actress should not be taken at face value. After all, it was not Judy Garland who spoke, but the girl sitting in her, with an altered consciousness, who constantly pressed everyone on pity.

Her daughter, the unsurpassed Liza Minnelli, who took her mother's talent for singing and her appearance, wrote in her memoirs that she once cooked in the kitchen and somehow unexpectedly for herself, under a ton of weight of the experienced she told her mother that she constantly regrets herself and did not sees what is really happening around. That it’s time to end this endless whining. To which her mother replied that self-pity is already her way of life, her profession.

Childhood childhood

But if you follow Judy's whole life, you understand that this woman is worthy of pity and sympathy like no other. After all, she never had a normal childhood, what can we say about youth. From the very birth there was only a damn job.

The girl was born into an acting family, and before reaching the age of three she already performed on stage with her older sisters. During one of these performances, the girl was noticed by the owner of Metro Golden Meyer, and from that very moment the actress's daily struggle for fame began, which eventually led to the complete draining of her soul.

Judy was a member of many eminent families of Hollywood actors and Marlene Dietrich is no exception. Her daughter recalled her first meeting with young Garland.

Together they rocked quietly on the garden swing. And the actress said that this is her holiday today. Then daughter Dietrich wondered why she didn't have fun on her birthday? Judy said that she simply did not have the strength to have fun, because she worked all day. She not only starred in Metro Golden Meyer, but also sings and dances: she is trained to become a star. Then Young Dietrich looked at this exhausted young girl, with big brown eyes on her pale face, she was very beautiful and sweet. When asked if you like the fact that you are being prepared for a great stellar career, Judy said that all this is just disgusting. After all, she has to work hard for the director to see her efforts. Otherwise, she will be replaced by someone else, more able-bodied and talented.

As you can see, Judy was very afraid of being left out of the profession. A huge role in this was played by her despotic mother, who, for any offense, locked her daughter alone in a room for several days and left her with her worries alone.

This led to the fact that conflicts often arose between them, which even escalated into legal proceedings.

The fear of not hitting the stars was fueled by Judy's mother, an authoritarian personality. If something was not right for her, her mother simply locked her daughter in the hotel room and left for the whole day, or even two, forcing the impressionable girl to worry. Very often the mother said that her daughter was a great egoist and thought only of herself. According to her, she never said that she wanted to be an ordinary cute child, but only repeated about success. In the future, Garland will be in conflict with his mother up to legal proceedings.

Of course, many may feel sorry for Judith and come to her defense, but the girl still dreamed of becoming famous, despite the fact that she constantly reproached the studio and its owner. But she could hardly have guessed, at the age of thirteen, what such zeal could turn into.

The glorious beginning of the end

Three years later, at the age of sixteen, Judy Garland starred in the great film “The Wizard of Oz”, which took her to the very top of fame. But only this was the beginning of its end. Over the next seven years, the actress will ruin her psyche and health.

The actress has repeatedly said that the doctors who worked at the studio addicted the girl to amphetamines, which made her body, exhausted by endless filming, work like a clockwork.

Judy said that together with a partner on the set, they had to work three days a day. Then the doctors gave them pills, vigor returned again, and fatigue vanished as if by hand. But then they, along with Mickey Rooney, were taken to the studio hospital, injected with a tranquilizer and they slept all day. Then it all started again.

This continued throughout the entire filming period. At first, everything was like a nightmare, things lost their reality, the brain refused to perceive reality. But over time, the actors got used to this mode. But the reason gradually began to leave them.

Strange, but Judy's filming partner categorically stated that there were no pills. And the fatal addiction to amphetamine was the choice of the actress herself. No one forced her and no one is to blame for the death of the actress. An attentive fan of Garland's creativity may notice that she got the best roles. She was adored by men, showered from head to toe with expensive gifts. If at first there were problems with his personal life, he even had to get rid of the child, at the insistence of the owner of the MGM studio. But in 1945, she met a man who carried the actress in her arms, and from whom she subsequently gave birth to Liza Minnelli. Unfortunately, the marriage was doomed. Judy began to be jealous of her husband for work. After he refused her to star in the film Madame Bovary, divorce was inevitable.

Over time, Garland's character became simply unbearable. Constant scandals and inability to control themselves forced Metro Golden Mayer to break the contract with the famous actress.

Tragedy

She found a way out. She used her acting talent to stage her own suicides. Lisa was a witness to all these performances. It was very difficult for the girl to watch her mother gradually sink to the bottom of life.

One day the performance was over and Judy Garland was found in the bathroom. She died due to an overdose of potent drugs. That's how quickly the star of the magnificent Judy went out.
