The protagonist of all photos Alexander Harding (Alexander Harding) - daylight. By fixing the sun's rays falling into windows, reflected from mirrors, visible in dust or fog, the author explores the properties and forms of light itself, as well as its relationship with our own physical and emotional state.
According to the author, the Visible Light series are not spontaneous photographs; each image is preceded by serious work that includes planning and preparation. “When I take these pictures, I follow the light for several days and write down notes about its location in a notebook at different times of the day. I usually do drawings and small digital pictures to get a general idea of what I want. The light moves very quickly, so I have to rush to create the final image, which is not so easy. I take very long exposures and sometimes use a smoke or fog machine to give the light a more distinct shape."
Alexander Harding says that it was no coincidence that he decided to work with light: "I am sure that daylight actually affects me, but I still do not understand why this is happening." The author believes that taking photographs helps him to study what light is and why it attracts people extraordinarily.
Working with light is not as easy as it seems at first glance. After all, the author depends on the weather, cloudiness, time of day: sometimes it is very difficult to create the necessary conditions for the desired picture. On the other hand, Harding believes that light has not yet been fully understood and poses many questions for people, and the work of the photographer makes it possible to find answers to at least some of them.
Alexander Harding was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1980. Graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he studied painting. Currently, the author is also studying photography as part of the master's program at the same university.
