Popular political cartoonist Roman Genn collaborates with major publications, including the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and Newsweek. No less fame was brought to him by caricatures of political figures of the past and present, made in oil on canvas in the style of classical painting.
As the artist himself recalls, he created his first work on a political theme at the age of five. It was a poster with the text "Thank you Comrade Brezhnev for our happy childhood." Perhaps this is what influenced his further work. At the age of 18, Roman was expelled from the Moscow Art College for reactionary cartoons criticizing the government. According to him, there was no dissent or protest in this act, there was only a desire to raise his authority in the eyes of his peers.
In 1991, Roman Genn moved to the United States, where he continued his activity, publishing in major periodicals. His works are sometimes distinguished by their sharpness and critical point of view, but it is this quality that is appreciated in the true masters of the caricature genre.
In recent years, Roman has devoted more and more time to canvas and oil. The first solo exhibition of his cartoons "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi" was recently held. It featured portraits of politicians, historical figures, and writers. Unlike most of Genn's works, these cartoons do not ridicule the characters depicted on them, but express respect and reverence for the geniuses of the past.
