Sonja Vordermaier is one of those artists, looking at whose works you don't even know what they mean for the life of you, but you can't take your eyes off. She collected in one place all types of street lamps in Europe, made a giant ball of rubber, created a giant crystal - and this is only part of her original work.

Of course, the essence of many modern installations is to surprise with an unusual combination of materials, or the very idea. For example, Korean artist Choi Jong Hwa presents his vision of the future in his striking installations. And Sebastien Wierinck combined business with pleasure, presenting furniture of the future made of plastic pipes in his installations. When you look at every work of the German Sonja Vordermaier, be it an elegant chandelier, spaceship or something else, it seems that all of them were created by different people.

Sonja Vordermaier was born in 1973 and currently creates his own spaceships and other amazing things in Hamburg. So far, her track record includes 11 installations on a variety of topics. One of the most understandable and interesting at the same time is “Leuchtenwald” (“Forest of Light”), for which she collected in one place 30 European street lamps from different cities: from her native Hamburg, from Prague, from Sarajevo, from Glasgow and others.

No less interesting is her project “Nordlüster”, for which she decorated one of the street lamps in Hamburg to look like an elegant chandelier. Immediately I remember her compatriot Mark Reigelman, who, with his work, tried to bring warmth and comfort to his hometown, for which, for example, he decorated a bus stop to look like a cozy room.

Sonya's other original installations are less understandable, but no less effective. For many of them, she uses metal, wood, rubber, and of course supplies and trash. All 11 of her projects are available on her website and are very easy to view.
