We are reminded every now and then that husband and wife are one Satan, or, politically correct, two halves. And in some cases, they are also one team. Every year, couples travel to Newry, Maine, USA to compete in the North American Championship and show what their tandem is capable of. 47 couples gathered for an unusual race in 2011.

It doesn’t carry its burden. This popular wisdom was tested on their backs by the participants of the North American Race - 2011. It would seem that nothing complicated: grab your spouse and run as fast to the finish line! But, as usual, there are nuances here. The North American Championship was held for the 12th time. Over the years, several styles of carrying wives have formed: it is more convenient for someone to throw their half over their shoulder, and for someone else - to carry it head down and feet first (judging by the photographs, this method is the most popular).

In a decade with a tail, fun family sports have gone from purely Finnish entertainment to international fun. Weight running competitions are held in Hong Kong and the United States. Although sport is called “carrying wives,” no one will check the stamp in the passport. The organizers are not worried about the legality of the marriage, but the weight of the wife (it must be at least 49 kilograms, otherwise a backpack will be put on the woman's back).

This year, 47 participating couples had to go through a rather steep ascent uphill and an equally fun descent, wade a muddy river (with touching attempts not to wet their partner, break up tandems, swim in dirty water and a desire to reunite) and run on the sand. Thank God the finish!

The winners of the 2011 race received a sea of beer (as much as the spouse weighed) and $ 620 (the partner's weight in pounds x 5). Now they have a direct road to the World Championship, which will be held in the homeland of crazy races - in Finland.
