They are here, they are nearby, they are already among us and are striving to blend in with the crowd! True, they are unlikely to succeed, they are very noticeable characters, well-known personalities, and with strangeness … Well, how can you not pay attention to a person resting on a park bench, stretched out on a twine? Or a person "hovering" over the asphalt, who strives to overcome the obstacle in the form of a roadway with one graceful jump? A funny art project called "Dancers Among Us" - the work of a photographer and an artist Jordan Matterwho got famous New York dancers involved in everyday situations. Here you will not see any safety cables, no editing, no photoshop or other computer assistants, only hundreds of hours of hard training and thousands of camera shots in search of the perfect shot, - says the author, Jordan Matter, about the photo project. So, he again and again forced his "victims" to jump, hang, bend, twist, raise their legs as high as possible and spread their arms as wide as possible … But the spectators were not regulars of theatrical or dance performances, but ordinary passers-by walking in parks and squares, relaxing in a cafe, rushing to work or home in the subway, shopping in stores.
Dancing is not just a hobby, it is a way of life. The resulting photographs from the Dancers Among Us series literally shout about it. And if it is unusual and wild for us to see people in this form in ordinary everyday situations, then for famous dancers from New York dance studios this rhythm of life is just ordinary and everyday. So Jordan Matter was very close to the truth, exaggerating the idea for his art project.
