Justifying the title of the cultural capital, St. Petersburg annually pleases residents and guests of the city with all kinds of exhibitions, concerts and festivals. And one of the most interesting, both for spectators and participants, is the traditional international sand sculpture festival, which takes place every summer on the beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress. This year, fans of sand sculpture celebrated an anniversary, X Sand Sculpture Festivalwhose theme sounded like " Masterpieces of world art". The festival was attended by masters of sand art not only from Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian cities, but also sculptors from France and Belgium, Germany and Austria, the Czech Republic and Latvia … There were representatives of Finland, Ireland, the USA, as well as masters from Scandinavian countries. the theme of the festival gave a huge field for imagination, the sculptures turned out to be incredibly interesting, very different, sometimes philosophically abstract, but invariably beautiful.
Someone preferred to sculpt the inner world of their beloved character out of the sand, someone liked classical literature and music, and some decided to present to the public their own vision of the creative heritage of this or that musician, writer, playwright, artist. And there were also such sculptors who, by the masterpieces of world art, mean modern cartoons by the authorship of the Walt Disney studio. Young visitors to the open-air festival liked Mickey Mouse, the famous Disney palace, and Aladdin with the Little Mermaid.
Judging a competition-festival of this kind is always difficult. As a jury, the organizers invited famous artists, sculptors, critics, as well as representatives of the Hermitage, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and other museums to the festival. The Sand Sculpture Festival "Masterpieces of World Art" opened in St. Petersburg in early July. It will be possible to look at the sandy statues until August 31st. At the end of the event, the jury will sum up the results and award the winners.
