Greece is going through not the best times in its history now. The financial crisis that befell her was reflected in the general morale of the Greeks, the country is in decline and despondency. But not everyone is ready to come to terms with the current situation. For example, a creative studio Beforelight decided to make the life of the Athenians a little more colorful and vibrant. This is how a street appeared in the city center, decorated with more than hundreds of lamps different shapes and sizes.
In December 2012, residents of the Belgian city of Hasselt brought thousands of pieces of their old pottery, which had been gathering dust in their cupboards for years, to a special collection point. And from all this stuff, a Christmas tree in the central square eventually grew, one of the most unusual in the world.
The inhabitants of Athens followed the same principle. They responded to the call of the creative studio Beforelight, which called for bringing old work lamps to your office.
Thus, 150 lamps of various colors, shapes and sizes were assembled. And all of them were used to create an unusual outdoor installation. Designers from Beforelight studio hung them on wires over one of the streets in the historic center of Athens.
Moreover, in the process of working on this street decoration, everyone could take part. For this, one of the empty shops on the street mentioned above was turned into an open creative studio for several weeks, in which one of the most extraordinary installations of our time was created.
Thanks to her, one of the dirtiest, darkest and most inconspicuous streets in the historical center of Athens has become a very popular place among residents and visitors of the city. Previously, it was scary to turn there, but now the public walks here around the clock, not being afraid to come here even with children.
The work of Beforelight studio and dozens of volunteers is a great example of how, if you wish, you can turn even the most depressed place into something light, bright and popular. The main thing is not to give up and not succumb to general despondency.

Air lamps, cloud lamps, paper lamps
Remember how in the elementary grades of school and in the preparatory group of the kindergarten we had to cut out all sorts of handicrafts from colored paper like snowflakes, Christmas trees, lanterns? It was especially difficult to make flashlights: scissors now and then tried to cut more paper than was needed, and then the flashlight ceased to be as beautiful as the one that the teacher showed. At least that's how it was with me … London-based designer Yu Jordy Fu, apparently, does not have such problems with the manufacture of flashlights
