On June 21, the famous theater and film actor Valery Zolotukhin could have turned 77 years old, but 5 years ago he passed away. He even knew how to turn supporting roles into central ones, and one of these works was the role of the pirate Ben Gunn in "Treasure Island" … Unfortunately, today most of the actors who starred in this film 36 years ago are no longer alive, and the departure of some of them was premature and tragic …
The three-part film by Vladimir Vorobyov is considered the most complete and accurate film adaptation of Stevenson's novel. It could have been even more complete if it had not been necessary to remove the material, which would have been enough for one more episode - at the request of the censors, scenes of violence and episodes where the heroes drank and gambled were cut out from the film. So, the audience did not see the disfigured face of the blind Pew, when he had a cork instead of an eye, the spilling of blood by Dr. Billy Bonsu and the scene of his drunken brawl. The director admitted that this film, which brought him back to his childhood, is especially dear to him, and each character is his favorite. On the set, we really managed to assemble a brilliant cast.
The professional life of Oleg Borisov, who played the role of John Silver in Treasure Island, was dramatic. His calling card was the role of Golokhvastov in the comedy "Chasing Two Hares", but his comedic talent was never fully revealed. Most often, he got supporting roles, he often missed opportunities to act in films because of his difficult character and frequent conflicts with directors - the actor could easily tell the master that he was not ready for filming and retire from the set. Once, because of this, he was even suspended from work for 2 years. Many colleagues called him arrogant and arrogant, but this, rather, was the result of increased demands on his craft and, first of all, on himself. Even knowing that he was terminally ill - he had lymphocytic leukemia - he continued to appear on stage for 16 years. At the same time, none of his colleagues suspected of his illness. On April 28, 1994, the life of Oleg Borisov was cut short.
Viktor Kostetsky in "Treasure Island" got the role of Dr. Livesey. Fame came to him in the 1970s. on the theatrical stage, this was also facilitated by his collaboration with the director Vladimir Vorobyov, who shot him in three of his famous films: "Krechinsky's Wedding", "Treasure Island" and "Truffaldino from Bergamo". After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he starred a little, basically, he got episodic roles. In 1990 he became a lecturer at the department of musical comedy and head of the department of stage movement and speech at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. On November 6, 2014, Viktor Kostetsky died of a heart attack at the age of 73.
Vladislav Strzhelchik played the role of Squire Trelawny in Treasure Island. Even before the war, he became an actor in the Bolshoi Drama Theater, then fought, served in the infantry, participated in army ensembles, and after the war he returned to the theater. Since 1959 he taught at LGITMiK and the Leningrad Institute of Culture. On his account - more than 80 roles in films and about 30 - in the theater. Most often, he got the role of generals, nobles and kings. Popularity brought him films "Crown of the Russian Empire" (Naryshkin), "Straw Hat" (father of the bride), "Midshipmen, Go!" (Lestok). In 1994, he suddenly began to forget the lyrics on stage, underwent an examination and received a disappointing diagnosis - a brain tumor. On September 11, 1995, his life was cut short.
Konstantin Grigoriev played the role of Captain Smollet in the film. He came to the cinema in the early 1970s, his roles in the films "Slave of Love", "Tavern on Pyatnitskaya" and "Transsiberian Express" brought him popularity. In February 1984, tragedy struck: the actor was beaten, and he was never able to recover his health after severe injuries. He underwent 8 surgeries, but suffered from dysfunction of the left hemisphere of the brain. As a result, Grigoriev lost his roles in theater and cinema. Since 1989, he has led a secluded life, and in February 2007 he died in poverty and oblivion.
Leonid Markov, who played Billy Bons, managed to build a successful career in the theater, and in the cinema he received mainly supporting roles, the most striking of which was his work in the film "Garage". In March 1991, he died of cancer at the age of 64.
The fate of Nikolai Karachentsov, who played a pirate named Black Dog in "Treasure Island", was tragic. His acting career developed very successfully - popularity came to him after the very first works, he performed more than 130 roles in theater and cinema. But in 2005 he got into a car accident, suffered a serious head injury, spent 26 days in a coma, and the recovery process took many years. The actor had to re-learn to walk and talk. He could not return to the profession. Bad fate continued to haunt Karachentsov: exactly 12 years after the first accident, on February 28, 2017, he again got into an accident and received a concussion. During treatment, he was diagnosed with a tumor. The struggle for the life and health of Karachentsov continues to this day.
Valery Zolotukhin in "Treasure Island" got the secondary, but very memorable role of Ben Gunn. His colleagues said: "".
Valery Zolotukhin was a talented actor and even turned episodes into small masterpieces. Popularity brought him roles in the films "Master of the Taiga", "Bumbarash", "The Tale of How Tsar Peter Got Married" and "Sorcerers". In the 1990s, there was a long hiatus in his film career, after which he returned to the screens in a new cinema of the early 2000s. ("Night Watch", "Day Watch", "The Master and Margarita"). In total, his filmography includes more than 70 works. On March 30, 2013, Zolotukhin died at the age of 72 after a long illness.
The film's director Vladimir Vorobyov also died tragically: on December 21, 1999, he was killed by hooligans on the threshold of his own house.
But the fate of the young actor Fyodor Stukov, who played the main role in "Treasure Island", was successful, although in the future he left the acting profession: Who the stars of children's films became when they grew up.

Cinema is a small life that an actor lives in the frame. It would seem that there is nothing wrong with playing a tragic role.
