Video: Skulls from Anything by Noah Scalin

On June 4, 2007, artist Noah Scalin came up with a brilliant idea: he cut out a skull from a sheet of orange paper and published the resulting image on the Internet with a note: "I will create images of skulls every day for a year." His ingenious work expected overwhelming success: after 5 months, Noah's website was visited by 250 thousand people, many of whom sent pictures of the skulls they made themselves. As a result, the artist's blog has become one of the most popular sites in the world.
On June 2, 2008, Noah created his 365th skull, thus completing the project. However, his imagination was not limited to this: the next day he published a bonus, 366th image on the blog, and still from time to time uploads photos of his new works to the site.
Why skulls? "Why not?" - Noah Skalin answers. Skulls have always seemed fascinating to him, and nowadays they can be found anywhere - from prints on T-shirts to stickers on bumpers of cars. However, nothing beats Noah's incredibly beautiful, weird and often funny depictions. The artist uses a striking variety of materials to create his work, from toothpaste to molten candle wax, from tea leaves to cocktail straws. One of the skulls is even carved from a watermelon! (Yes, then they ate it).
Determined to consolidate the success of his idea, in October 2008 Noah Skalin published a book called, of course, "Skulls" ("SKULLS"). It includes images of 150 skulls, accompanied by short descriptions and funny stories. As a bonus, readers are offered four ideas on how to create skulls on their own.
The Noah Skalin collection is a great example of how creativity can be found in every aspect of our daily life. You can see the rest of the author's work on his blog.
