Have you wanted to try yourself in painting for a long time, but could not decide to take a brush and a palette in your hands and stand at the easel? Does everyone around you think that your creative efforts are a pathetic daub? So you are a loser! So, a selection of paintings by Canadian artist Kim Dorland will serve you as good consolation. Or maybe inspiration too.
Experts call Dorland's work "naive art", spiteful critics - careless daubs, and fans of original talent believe that the paintings that Kim creates are psychologically and stylistically unexpected. And that is true - no one expects, instead of the promised landscapes and portraits, to see a canvas covered with paint, on which, moreover, the author left not neat strokes and lines, but rough furrows. It was like a tractor drove through a fertilized and wet field …
The principle by which Kim Dorland paints his original paintings can be described in one short phrase: "the main thing is not to spare the paint." After all, if you look closely, the paintings are literally scratched out on a thick layer of oil, with which the author generously enriches his canvases. It turns out that the paintings are not painted, but sculpted, as if they were sculptures.
And yet the artist does not strive for accuracy and realism. He creates in a special style, a kind of childish abstractionism, not caring about maintaining proportions, or giving the images volume, or the aesthetics of paintings. It seems that the main task of the author is as carelessly as possible, with his left hand from under his right knee, to throw paint on the canvas, to paint a blot - this is painting! Although, very possibly, it’s only for us, the inhabitants, it seems that it is easy to draw in this way and just. After all, one way or another, and Kim Dorland often participates in exhibitions, his paintings are presented in galleries in Toronto, where he lives and works, and quite successfully sells his works both in Canada and far abroad.
By the way, the author has his own website on the Internet. There you can see the rest of the masterpieces of his original work.
