Is jewelry intended only to adorn its owners, or does it carry a deeper meaning? Swedish designer Hanna Hedman assures that her work is not just beautiful trinkets, but a real study on the topic of "lies, escape from reality, as well as the boundaries between reality and fantasy."
The name of the collection is long, but it fits with the main idea of the designer: "What you say does not always mean what you feel." This includes 14 necklaces made of copper, silver and synthetic fibers. According to Hannah, this series of works was inspired by all kinds of stories, or rather, her interest in how the attitude towards the speaker changes depending on the amount of missing information and the personalities of the listeners: “What changes every time you tell a story, and why so difficult to reveal the whole truth? And is the truth always interesting to listeners? Perhaps fantasy is as important as reality?"
“What You Say Doesn't Always Mean How You Feel” is a kind of story about human weakness and the associated defense mechanisms. To some extent, Hannah Hedman's metal necklaces are armor, armor, and not just a cute accessory. "I am interested in creating contrasts between beautiful and unpleasant, serious and ugly. Sadness and disgust can also carry something beautiful. I use beauty to attract the viewer's attention, but I really want to say a lot more," says Hannah.
“What You Say Doesn't Always Mean How You Feel” is not Hannah's first collection. Before her, there were "In Search of the Dark Essence" and "Tears Enough for Two", where not only necklaces, but also rings are presented. Hannah Hedman's intricate jewelry is incredible stories where reality and dreams meet. These stories are not black or white. As the designer assures, "they exist in a gray space, strange and indefinite." With his works, the author invites the viewer into an invented world: "beautiful, but in places subject to melancholy and anger."
Hannah Hedman graduated from Konstfack University in Stockholm in 2008, but has already won the love and recognition of the public. Exhibitions of her works are held all over the world, including countries such as Poland, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Holland, USA.
